Hey everybody
I have a question about one of my females. She's been out of brumation since Jan 20, and she has yet to have a post-brumation shed. I don't know for sure how old she is, but she is a big husky corn, about 52" long. I bought her last summer at a pet store, couldn't resist her size and how tame she is. Anyways, she has mated quite a few times with one of my males this past week (I tried her a couple weeks before and she wouldn't let him breed, but the last few times she has done the tail gaping thing females do when they are ready), but she still hasn't shed. She has been feeding very heavily, like a jumbo mouse every 3 or 4 days, and she is nice and big. I'm wondering is it possible she is just old and isn't fertile? Or is it possible soem females don't have a post-brumation shed? I tried palpating her for follicles but she is so big and husky it's hard to feel up inside of her.

I'm really stumped on this one. She has to be fertile if the male is mating her, right? And she's allowing breeding, so she has to be ready? But why no shed?
Help me if ya can.

I had one last year that never had a post-brumation shed. She mated fine and produced 100% fertile eggs, which all hatched. She just never shed. I gave up waiting in the end and put the male with her anyway.

I don't know why, but it didn't seem to cause any problems.
