Wide-angle Cottonmouths

Pruddock

Gig 'Em Ags!! Whoop!!
I found these guys this weekend out herping and I was shooting the normal Cottonmouth shots with my macro when I decided to throw the 17-40mm L on the camera and see what it looked like. I thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share.

Synchronized displays:

Another with two of the three cottonmouths from this waterhole:

Gotta love how these guys are always willing to pose for you!

Thats one snake you can have all to yourself, I've had too many close encounters with 'em

Ahh, these guys aren't so bad. They just like to act really tough. To be honest, I've never even had one strike at me to this day. Now Copperheads... those are a different story. Those bitey little bastards have almost gotten me a few times lol.

Thanks for the comments Raven, Chris, and ceduke. You can be jealous of the Agkistrodon we have here Chris, but I'd take some of the Crotalus y'all have out there anyday. I have yet to find a Crot in the wild (which I'm hoping to change this weekend ;) ) but I'm really targeting Sistrurus this year and hoping I don't come up empty handed!

LOL well maybe its just me they hate, I've had quite a few take a swing at me, copperheads also; the only ones that haven't have been rattlers. Awesome pictures thougn

Great shots Payton! A cottonmouth is thus far the only venomous snake I have been able to photograph in the wild myself (other than the occasional racer of course). The threat display is awesome to see in person - I have to agree!
