Here’s what you need to know and do:
1. Request a Refund from the Recipient:
- If you realize that you’ve been scammed or sent money to the wrong person, immediately request a refundthrough the Cash App interface. To do this:
- Open the transaction in question.
- Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
- Select Request a Refund or Request Money.
- The recipient has to voluntarily return the money, as Cash App can’t force them to do so.
2. Dispute the Transaction:
- If you used a debit card or credit card linked to Cash App for the transaction, you might be able to dispute the chargewith your card provider. Contact your bank or card issuer to report the fraudulent transaction and initiate a chargeback.
- Explain that you were the victim of a scam and follow the bank’s instructions for investigating and disputing the transaction.
3. Report the Scam to Cash App:
- You can report the incident to Cash App’s customer service. While Cash App typically doesn’t intervene directly in peer-to-peer scams, they may be able to assist in freezing the scammer’s accountif other users have reported the same issue.
- To report a scam:
- Open Cash App and tap your profile icon.
- Select Support or Help.
- Choose Something Else and then follow the prompts to report the scam.

4. Protect Your Account:
- If you believe your account was compromised or hacked as part of the scam, take steps to secure your Cash App account:
- Change your PIN and other login details.
- Enable two-factor authentication on your email and phone account linked to Cash App.
- Monitor your account for any unusual activity.
