will they fight?

hey guys, I have 1 anery corn, about 56 inches, 350 grams,(male i think), and a regular corn about 38 inches, and 150 grams (female i think), the female is in a 30 long, and the anery is in a 55 long, at night the temp is about 70, and during the day about 75, my question is can i put the female in the 55 with the male, or will they fight? they are both pretty calm, and if i put them in with a hide hole each, will they be alright?

Read up on cohabbing...

In a word no, they might not "fight" but they might eat each other. Also it is highly inadviseable to keep a male and a female together as they may breed prematurely which will most likely lead to the death of the female.

Stress is a major factor as one corn may be domininant and "bully" the other as well as keeping the best spots for themselves. Also I have read of dominant corns keeping the other one away from the water preventing the corn from drinking.

Stress can also lead to feeding problems.

All in all, it's not a good idea, especially if one corn is larger than the other.

Corns are solitary for the most part and do better alone in general. :)

But there are MANY threads on this forum regarding cohabbing. :)

I'm pretty new to the forum..but I've read that they can breed prematurely (as mentioned above). My boyfriend had two cornsnakes in the past (both females) and kept them together and they appeared to be fine and were both around the same weight and length. I currently have two females and am keeping them separate most especially since they are still relatively new (I'm still getting to know them) and a noticeable difference in size. They've been around one another and seem to be alright..but you never know what'll happen when you're not around. I may put them together when their sizes are much closer..not sure yet..still trying to make a decision..anyway, I've gotten side tracked..I think that your male and female should be kept separate from one another

Your male is old enough to breed - and big enough to force the female to let him.

Your female is about 150 grams too small to breed safely.

If it were the other way around - small male, larger female - I'd just say "Well, be aware you're probably going to get eggs you need to incubate".

This way around, I'll say "Well, be aware that your female is going to get mated and because she's quite small you may well get an expensive vet visit instead."

I really don't want this to turn into another long thread, so hopefully this will be one of the last replies. No offence meant to the original poster, but all you need to do is type co-hab into the search or spend 5 minutes looking, and you'll see the reasons for and against it are all over the place....

I just wanted to say, I plan on cohabbing my breeding pair providing all things go ok. I am not one of these people against it in all circumstances. However my female has been quaratined for 3 months, I know both their personalities very well. She is old enough easily weighs enough to breed, I was going to breed them anyway and have preparations for hatchlings. I am keeping her set-up and if their behavious changes or if one of them refuses a meal (neither of them ever have, and neither of them have ever regurged) I will take this as a sign they are stressed and seperate them.

But there are a few reasons specific to your case why you shouldn't do it:
1) You aren't 100% sure of their sexes
2) The female is too small to breed, if the male forced her she may become egg-bound and die
3) They are both quite small and a regurgitation would be very serious and you wouldn't know what snake it came from.

Plus it seems you aren't wanting lots of baby snakes to look after either. So for now definetely keep them seperate. However if you ever do put them together against most of the advise you'll recieve on here, make sure they don't just have 'a hide hole each' they should have 2 each at least, as they should now in their seperate tanks (1 at the warm end and 1 at the cool end)

Hope this helped, I don't want to turn this into another debate though. :)
