wood branches from the forest

I picked up some interesting branches on my recent walk in the forrest. I seem to remember reading, ideally, not to use this in a Viv. if you do treat the wood first.

I've got a piece of either leyland cypress or Thuja (poss pine) and a piece of oak.

Any advice please.

anyways
bark should be stripped from the branches. if they'll fit in the oven, bake them for a couple hours at 180-200F. no hotter than that or the water and resins in the wood will being to boil out, ruining the wood and whatever you have the wood on, not to mention smoke alarms and the stink.

larger branches that won't fit will also need to be stripped, sprayed with a bleach solution, and rince thoroughly
 
I believe pine is a no no because of the resin. Oak should be ok, i would just pour boiling water over it & it should be ok to put in the viv. :cheers:

Is Thuja a generic name for pine trees ?? I'll also google it.
 
Well if this si the case im going to go out to my fire wood pile carve and clean a nice peice... i need a new basking spot for my beardie.. he outgrew old... :p
