Wood Question for Hide

I want to make a hide for both of my snakes because they are outgrowing their own and I was curious what would be the best wood to build them out of? I went to look at home depot today and found pine, cedar, red oak. I know pine won't work because of the oil.

don't use cedar, it's worse than pine.
The oak will probably be your best bet.
My favorite way to make hides (just recently discovered!) is to use the construction grade insulating styrofoam and quickrete concrete :) You can carve the styrofoam into any number of shapes, put some quickrete on it, and voila! You have a natural looking, light weight hide. I bought all that from Lowes too, for under $20!
My favorite type of hide though, is just some cotton wood bark off a dead cotton wood tree. My corns happiliy sit under it all day.
