WOOT! My corn snake is gravid!!!

My sunglow corn snake is gravid with my Miami phase! This is my first time breeding corns (not the corns first time the person I got her from says she usually has large clutches) I am so excited!! If the first time I put them together was a sucsess then she should be almost 3 weeks into it! I can feel egg lumps in her lower half!! I have a few questions...

Is peat moss ok for corn snakes? I put damp peat moss in her nesting box to help help her with shedding when she does and to lay her eggs in.

I am debating on buying a incubator or not. Has anyone just ever used a heat lamp or would that be a bad idea?

And any ideas of what her offspring might look like?

I will let the breeding professionals treat the breeding questions but it is hard to say what you babies are goining to look like. Probably mostly like classic Corn snakes. Your sunglow is Amel and if the Miami is het Amel you may get some amels and some classic corns. Good luck on the babies. We all hope to see pics in the future.

Okay, you should have had everything ready before you ever bred them together. What are you going to do with all the babies?

A heat lamp will dry the eggs out, they need heat and high humidity. There are lots of threads about incubating eggs on this board, just search for them.

You can just *** and not reply to my posts if your going to be an *** about everything I say.

Heh heh let's bring the volume down a bit here. What is done is done. I think this site here to help people and share knowledge.

I really don't care if you're angry about what I say. It's irresponsible to breed animals if you aren't going to bother to research it first, she is going to lay very soon and you have had weeks to learn about breeding and just not bothered.

A heat lamp will kill the eggs. You should have also bought the Corn Snake Manual, it has everything you would want to learn and more.

This is a pretty good outline on breeding, complete with an into about the importance of responsible breeding.

What are you going to do with the babies? Do you have the money to take care of and feed 20 snakes?

Cool, I am so excited!!! If I breed her sometime with my snow that would result in blizzards right? Or would it result in mostley amels?

A blizzard is a combination of amel and charcoal. Snow is amel and anery. Since you amel is a sunglow I would think that he would not be het anery so no snows but you would get all amels.

Do you think I would breed my snake if I didn't have the time and money and resources to keep them? Not all people who breed snakes are 100% irresponsible. People come on here to get answers and advice so yes they may be a little ignorant but if you can't deal with that in a more respectful way then please, just shut the ***up.

You're right, not all people that breed snakes are irresponsible, especially ones that take the time to research about breeding before they do it. However, it's a pretty good assumption if you mated your snakes and then waited 3 weeks to come and ask basic questions about incubating the eggs. It can cost a few hundred dollars to raise a clutch of babies, and they will most likely be 100% Classics and will be hard to sell. The market is completely over-saturated with snakes right now.

I find it amusing that you talk about respect and then tell me to shut up. Nice one.

You posted a thread on a public board, where any member of the board can contribute. I haven't been rude about anything, unlike you, and I've actually given you real advice.

Yeah cause I don't have respect for jerks.

I know exactly how I'm going to incubate the eggs. I heard about how someone used a heat lamp to incubate their eggs and I never heard someone doing that before so I asked to see if anyone here has done that. That is not the way I am planning to incubate the eggs I don't need you to tell me I'm irresponsible and how much it's going to cost. Your 23? It's time to grow up.

Oh yeah that's right it's amel and charcoal. I have a female charcoal. Type B I think (she has yellow) if her and my snow bred what would that outcome be?

100% normals het amel, anery, and charcoal.

If you knew how you were going to incubate the eggs, why did you ask if you needed an incubator or a heat lamp? Why did you ask if peat moss was okay, if you already know everything?

I am not a jerk at all, I just have more knowledge and experience than you, and you are being very aggressive and defensive because you don't like my advice. I have been very civil and I haven't resulted to cursing or calling you names, all I pointed out is that these are things you should have already knew before you paired your corns together. Even so, I have answered all your questions.
