Worried about snake in shipping?

I am suppose to have a ball python delivered (and held at a staffed FedEx location) today. The package has had an estimated delivery time of before 10:30am on 12/17/13. It's now about 11:00am and I wouldn't be worried except that the estimated delivery time suddenly changed to "N/A." The last tracking update said it was "At destination sort facility" in Great Falls, MT (at 7:16 this morning) but it still needs to get to Missoula which is a ways away. I'm assuming they are putting it on a plane in Great Falls and bringing it to the Missoula airport?

Should I be concerned about the change in delivery time, or just wait a while longer? At what point should I be calling FedEx to figure out where the package is and when it's going to get here?

FedEx is usually excellent about getting packages on time, especially when going to its own FedEx offices. But it is winter in Montana, and Christmas shipping is already very heavy - and you are getting a python, not a corn. So I would probably call now, rather than later. If there is a problem, they will have more time to solve it today if you call early. Plus you may be able to get a refund on the shipping cost when they are late. So I would have the tracking # handy, and give them a call.

Good luck!

Isn't the destination sort facility the final stop in your state, before it goes to the pick-up location? So I _think_ you're still on for today. This is exactly why it's safest to have snakes held for pick-up- there's a delay for whatever reason- holiday volume, weather, whatever- and your snake is going to be inside and safe.

You _might_ have to have the shipper call, though. OR you might want to drive to the pick up location, if you know them well, and have them call from there.

Okay I am officially the biggest worry-wort in the world! I need to remind myself to stay calm in situations like this one ;)

About 20 or 30 minutes after I posted this thread I got the calling saying he was at the FedEx location. I just got him home a few minutes ago and he is perfectly fine! The seller did a great job of packaging him up so he stayed warm. He was very responsive and alert right out of the box! It's been a warm week for a Montana winter and the seller really needed to get rid of a few animals to make more space, so it worked out perfectly for the both of us.

Here's a couple pictures just for the heck of it!

Glad your shipment came in ok.

Years ago, I had special permission to use Airborne Express, and then DHL, before FedEx allowed reptile shipments. I have to say that FedEx is SO much better as far on time delivery goes! It was somewhat common for the other 2 companies to delay shipments an extra day - maybe as many as 15% of my shipments took an extra day back then. Most people don't realize how lucky we are that FedEx is available for our use these days!

Lucky! I heard it was 62 in Hamilton today (whaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!) after being in the negatives just last week lol. Glad he made it safe before the next cold snap!

I know! It's insane. About two weeks ago it was about -11 degrees outside. It was so cold that we did a little trick where we threw a put of boiling water into the air and it instantly turned to snow!

Today its crazy warm out (for a Montana winter at least). It's 52 degrees out and I'm comfortable in nothing more than a light sweater.

It's suppose to get cold again in a few days but I was super lucky to get a 5-6 day window of warm weather to receive a ball python I have been wanting for a while now.
