Worrying Temps

Recluse

I have a young roughly 7-month old male corn. I live in AZ, and it's an oven here. The temperatures range from 100-105 a day. During the day I have an incandescent bulb set up to give the room a natural light effect, but keep it far enough away from his cage so the temp doesnt rise. His cage temperatures are normally 87, 88, sometimes it'll get to 88 during the day and usually cools down to about 83 at night. I have had a few instances where the temp has crawled to 90 which was really scary for me, but he seemed fine. I don't have a warm side/cool side because it's been impossible for me to achieve. I have a fan constantly blowing on the "cool" side of his tank, but it never lowers the temp. I am really worried that these high temps and that lack of thermoregulation might hurt him. Any ideas on how to fix it?

As long as you're not providing any extra heat he should be fine. I know lots of people who keep their snake rooms an ambient 88 during the day and drop it to 82 at night, so your natural cycle is fine :)

It would worry me...I would get a couple large ice packs and alternate them- putting them outside touching the glass near the hide he uses, placing them there when the temp is close to 90.

Make sure he has a water bowl big enough to get into and completely submerge. It might be nice to get one of those ceramic dog bowls that looks like the cheapo plastic dog bowls, with the space underneath, so he can hide under it. The ceramic will stay cooler than plastic.

The fan doesn't cool the air, it just circulates it. It only makes animals that sweat feel cooler, by evaporation. Doesn't work on snakes.

Alrighty, his waterbowl is large enough for him to get in it, but he never does. He does hide under his water bowl on occasion, but spends most of his time on the warmer side. But I've tried frozen towls on his tank, but I will for sure give the ice packs a try. Thanks :)
