i am wanting to put a log in my viv ( 3 foot) so my snakes can climb on it but dont know wot tree i can use? i have been told i can go to my local wood and take a branch ( as long as i clean it and strip bark) i live in the U.K. and a a variety of trees i thought something like beech but wanted to see what you guyz n girlz thought ................... plz help

Beech would be fine - any of the hard woods like beech, oak, elm etc. Wood from fruit trees is also good if you know someone taking down an old apple or pear tree that has big enough branches.

The woods to avoid are the soft ones like pine, which give off resinous fumes that are dangerous to Corns.

My personal guideline is, deciduous = OK, evergreen = bad. That's a bit of a generalisation, but I think it errs on the side of safety.
