As far as the tank goes, last time I went to PetCo (last week) they were having their dollar per gallon sale, so you could get a 50gal for $50.

You could also check your local creigs list adds. I find the cheapest tanks on craigs list
 
I bought an Extreme Okeetee hatchling from Don at SMR last month. $65 + shipping. I'm very pleased with her - can't wait to see her colors come through! Just thought I'd share my recent positive experience. Good luck in your search for your new snake. And I vote craigslist for used cages or the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley for new shiny cages.
