i dont see y not i would put it in a corner of the tank tho kinda burried in the substrate so the back can be kinda of like there cave!
 
I'd make sure the paint or plastic material is non harmful to animals of any sort before you put it in but otherwise I don't see why not. Although I doubt it would work very well once your corn started to grow.
