congrads on your first snake. I would recomend getting rid of the heating rock though I heard stories that they can burn the snakes pretty bad. I have two hides one on the warm side and one on the cold. I also have a climbing branch.
hopes this helps

I third(?) that.. ;)
A heat pad placed under the tank is a better idea. Some people also use heat lamps but I personally prefer heat pads.
The optimum temperature for the warm side should be about 84ºF right where the snake will touch the heat source.

I fourth, for all the same reasons above and for another... A Under Tank Heater is cheaper to power.

What kind of corn did you get? Congrats!

I agree!
But I have my heatmat on the side of the viv.
Does it affect the heat?

Congrats for getting your snake!

ok ok i get it

ok i get that its a bad thing that i have a heating rock in my viv but what is something special that i can put in my viv for the snake?

I've always liked the idea of putting a castle, like you would put in a fish tank, in with a herp so they could pretend to be a monster serpent about to eat the princess.

Heehee, that's funny. :D When I set up my new hatchling's tank, I bought a little castle that they sell for aquariums. It's her favorite hide! She loves the thing, and she looks so cute when she's peeking out of it. The only problem is that it can be very hard to get her out of it when I need to. She can stay in the thing when I pick it up...

You want something special? try a mouse. Also remember cedar is toxic for reptiles and i've heard pine ain't so good either. Good luck to your new pal.

I got a medium sized rock from outside and sterilized it as well as I could and put it in Slick's tank. It's red so it looks really cool. It's about the size of two fists. He can go all around it. I also have the plastic foliage that suctions to the glass, so it looks kind of tropical in there.

awesome!

When I used to keep fish I used volcanic rock and it looked great. It sounds like you have a great set up!
