I visited the local PetCo last night to grab some substrate for my python and I couldn't help but notice the amount of ridiculousness involved in the housing of corn snakes (among other "cheap" reptiles). There were five corns in the terrarium with a type of substrate that does not allow burrowing. There was only one hide. Temperature readings were 90F with high humidity. There were two crickets crawling around in the tank (I'm assuming these were meant to be prey items). There was quite a bit of feces in the tank.
Is there something wrong with this picture, or am I delusional?
I wasn't sure what to do. I am think about calling the store manager now. I recently applied to work there. Maybe they could hire me and I'll straighten things out a bit? Do you guys think I would encounter any issues with company policy if I worked on getting separate, appropriate housing and feeding items?
