Yet another regurg!

guitrage

Ophidiophile
I fed Keahi on Tuesday, and handled her and cleaned her cage on Thursday. She was out of the cage for a little over an hour, and it was about 65 in the house at the time. Later that night I discovered a slightly gelatinous substance, and I wasn't sure if it was feces or regurg. I went ahead and fed her on Sunday, and she tossed it later that day. I guess the substance I found on Thursday WAS regurg, and by Sunday she didn't have sufficient stomach acids to digest her meal. I should've been more careful about leaving her out in the cold; I don't know why I didn't realize that she wasn't done digesting, I know it takes longer than 2 days. I feel like such a bad caretaker!

Now I'm going to wait 2 weeks and try again with a small pink, and I'll be much more careful with her after she eats this time. I sure hope that it was my error and that she doesn't have anything physically wrong with her. If she doesn't keep the next one down (which I feel pretty strongly that she will) I'm going to take her to the vet.

During this 2 week waiting period, can I handle her as usual?

Thanks again for all the help.

Awwwww!! Don't feel bad. It happens! Live and learn, right? :) Give her some time to mellow (I'm sure that can be somewhat stressful) But I see no reason why you should go a full 2 weeks without handling.

And good on you for knowing to feed a small meal next time. :)

i've done the same...

thing. the one and only time norbert regurgitated was when i handled him too soon after a feeding. i felt really bad because i should've known better, but i wanted to tidy up his enclosure. i'm sure that you snake will be just fine, they bounce back relatively quickly when something goes wrong in their bodies. don't feel to bad, everything will be alright.

:wavey:

Just my opinion, but I would not handle her till she keeps a meal down.
The less stress the better.
It is very difficult to "Bring one back" from consecutive regurges.

Guitrage, could it be b/c she's been hanging out on the cool side of the viv? Sometimes they get stubbornly attached to a favorite hide and will go there even though they need to get warm to digest. I had to take a water bowl away from one of my snakes because she liked to get underneath it and would go there after she ate and then have regurges, it happened twice and then I replaced it and put a bigger log hide on the warm side and she hasn't had a regurge since.

I'm with MBDorfer, I would not handle her at all until she's kept a meal down. I would go even further and not bother her until she's kept 2 meals down. I would not rush the next feeding, wait the full two weeks. I learned early on that regurges can kill a snake. I know it's hard, but be patient.

Mike
