"You lie!" - Disrespect or expression of an opinion?

Leave it to a republican from a southern state to speak their mind to the point of going too far. (And I do not mean that in a positive NOR a negative way,..just as a likelihood. Of the south, Obama won only Florida, NC, and Virginia.) I didn't know anything about Wilson, or what he said...but I thought it was a republican from Louisiana who was supposed to give the rebuttal to the speech. Charles Boustany,Jr. former heart surgeon.

"Disrespect or an expression of an opinion?"

Are those our only two choices? Because I'm going with ignorance:

H.R. 3200: Sec 246 said:
NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

Once again proving the maxim, "You're entitled to your own opinion; you are NOT entitled to your own facts."

Evidently, Rep. Wilson's leading opponent in the next election received $20K in donations within three hours after the Presidential Address last night.

Oops. :grin01:

I'm missing it, was he one of the voices yelling out, from the audience, during the speech?

I agree, I need the choice of "bad manners/poor taste". Oh Lordy Bejesus. You will never be taken seriously by talking crazy.

And Dale, your last sentence is hilarious...because it is so likely.

I vote bad manners. Fine, disagree. Fine, think he's not telling the truth. But wait until YOUR turn. I thought that was something taught in childhood.

I'll take rude and childish for 1,200 Alex!

I personally thought that Obama's speech was great. I won't argue the politics of it, but I did like the message.

How about just plain rude?

I didn't see the speech, and haven't started getting into reading about it yet this morning, so I know nothing of the politics behind it, the reasons for it, or what might have caused it. But when I was a little kid, if I interrupted someone by calling them a liar, I got a slap, and told to wait my turn.

Right or wrong...it's just plain rude...

There are many forums and options for voicing your disagreement with any governmental program, decision etc... The floor of congress while the president is speaking is not one. Unless of course you want to be perceived as a couth-less hack like Joe Wilson.
When I first heard that he had done this, I was thinking it was planned. Big similarity between his rude and out of turn outburst and the ones plaguing townhall meetings.
Today I found this:
Wilson posted on Labor Day:
"Happy Labor Day! Wonderful parade at Chapin, many people called out to oppose Obamacare which I assured them would be relayed tomorrow to DC," the tweet from Wilson's account said.
I agree with Dale but would like to add, planned ignorance.
It doesn't get much worse than this.

It's all in the delivery when your a politician. :roflmao:

Obama - "prominent politicians" ... "it's a lie plain and simple"

result - standing ovation

heckler - "you lie"

result - a glare from Obama and Pelosi and awes of shock from all

recommendation - heckler needs to go back to politician school and take 'you lie with standing ovation 101' over again :roflmao:

I learned something in the ARMY, a long time ago. Respect the Rank, regardless of what you think of the individual. Yelling out like that, was a bit tacky!

Should people be asking for his resignation? NO!

Wayne

I guess what happened to Joe's political opponent could be called just-desserts:
mid all this, the campaign of Democrat Rob Miller, who hopes to unseat the Republican Wilson in next year's midterm elections, raked in the dough: more than $200,000 from 5,000 individuals overnight and Thursday morning after Obama's speech, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

BTW, I'm here to dispel the rumors that Rep. DeMint and Governor Sanford have sent fruit baskets and thank-you notes to Rep. Wilson for replacing them as South Carolina's leading "d-nozzle" politicians.

:sidestep:

Yeah, but didn't they all and self-described "Family values", married, Mike Duvall, Republican mistress's spanking legislator book a condo in Brazil for their annual 'Summer Break' retreat?

That is strange that there is so much talk about his resignation. I certainly think his outburst shows a lack of character, but to end his career over this? I'm not leaning one way or the other, and I personally wouldn't feel great about his status after this. But you'd think a second chance would be in order, just my $.02.

It just goes to show how careful one must be with their actions, especially in such a high ranking position. I don't personally find what he did more offensive than some other politicians poor actions, but I guess it's the character behind the outburst that is leading the pressure to resign.
Either way... It was clearly a bad personal, and political move to make, and at a very poor time as well.

He stepped out of line and realized it. It was a bonehead move that did nothing to help how he felt other than release some tension. - insert innuendo here - :nyah:

Should he resign? That's up to him and his state to determine. If they feel badly enough about it then they should write in and ask for it, if not, then he apparently didn't do as much harm to their rights as we all might think...
