Zilla slidetop tanks and thermostat probes

This is probably a dumb question but I couldn't find it after searching.

I just got my thermostat and I'm attempting to get it all set up, but I cant find the port for the probe's cord on my 10 gallon zilla critter cage. Help?

There's a tab on the back you have to break off so you can put the cable through. I wondered the same thing when I got my first critter cage!

I used needlenose pliers to break it off. I don't know why they just come with it off but I guess it's to make it more complicated for us!

Yup, as RATSNCORNS stated...on both sides of the plastic top, there are little square-ish knockouts that are prescored. I used a sharp razor knife and and pair of needle-nose to remove it.

I didn't see it at first either...took me a second to figure it out

The needlenose pliers worked great. Im going to have a happily regulated snake now heh now if only I could prevent her from climbing the wire like she already did last night... I'm so paranoid about my little baby escapigng!

If you are using an UTH, you can tape the prob to it the under the tank. Many thermostat manufacturers recommend this. The prob is not exposed to the snake and/or waste.

I think I will make a new post on this...and see what everyone else thinks....standby :)

I've read that tape on the inside is best avoided because sometimes the snakes get caught on it even when it is pressed down really well and it's difficult to remove without injuring them.

If I were mean I'd use a squirt bottle like with my cat, lol. Get off that wire *squirt*:poke:! But naw, just make sure the hole is snake proof (hot glue to seal up any gap maybe? Just use low heat so it doesn't bond with the insulation in case you ever need to remove it). Maybe add some vines/branches for climbing to distract him.
