well, I'm cured of putting young snakes together. Today is feeding day for most of the snakes I have. My husband has (or had) 2 everglade rat snakes we housed together. Always have since we've had them. Heck, at one time we had 3 baby corns and the rats housed together with no problem. Well, when I went to feed to rat snakes all I found was one fat snake. Now, they've been housed in the 12 qt plastic shoe boxes and I see no way for the other one to get out. So, I can only come to the conclusion that one sibling got tired of the other sibling and decided to have a snack. How unfortunate. Most of my babies are separated but not all!! Guess I got some work to do.

Sorry to hear that

If you don't have an issue with it, I'll add your testimonial to my standard cannibal post. Experience is a tough teacher.

Nope, don't have an issue at all with it. Just didn't think it would happen with 2 that have been residing together for months.

Sorry to hear what happened. It's good of you to post this thread. People can only learn from these horrible experiences.
Thank you. :)

Well, after reading this, I am glad that I have come to the conclusion that I will be seperating my two adult corns this year. They have been together for almost 4 years now. Hopefully I can get the rack built and in place before one of them gets really hungry.

I'm sorry to hear about your lost.

I have to say I am glad I found this site. I've learned a lot from all of you. After reading all the posts I had decided to seperate my male and female. My mother had a 29 gal tank. I set it up a couple of days ago and this morning put my female in it. As soon as I get pictures I'll post them.

Have adult foamy beverages, will travel

Possum, did you get your little project finished?? I expect pics!

I already know all about CAV. We have met twice now. Once for an adult foamy beverage...and the second was to look at his collection. He then offered help iof I were to make a rack.

I have heard of them, but have yet to use one.

Can someone please explain?

Sounds like I might be interested, I can't tell yet! LOL

Thanks,

This is what I have found on line so far. I have seen them advertised on TV a couple of times. Might look into getting one just to try out. If I do, I will let you know how they work and if they are worth it.
here is the website

So there are people using them to make holes in plastic tubs? Is that what I'm understanding?

As of right now, I use an ice pick and the stove to make holes in all my sterilites. It works well, but takes alot of time and patience.

Anyone here, used these cold heat guns before for this purpose? I'd like to hear actual experience. How big are the holes it makes?

Thanks,

Quigs

I just use a drill with a 1/4" to 3/4" bit. makes drilling holes quick and they are smooth.

I don't know about the 'cold' solder guns, I use a regular 'cheap' soldering iron and it works GREAT! I used a drill for a bit at first but the soldering iron beats it hands down.

Gotta agree with ya, Clint.

My $9 Wood Burning kit from Wal-Mart is priceless. 1/8" up to 1/4" round holes or 1/16" slits as long as I want. I couldn't tell you how much time it's saved me over drilling!

So what are the chances of one snake turning to the other as it's meal. Were there any conditions that you may be able to pinpoint? How long between feedings etc.

I house two males together and two females together. This concerns me!!

so sorry to hear that you had to actually experience this. i had a near cannabil experience and that was a good enough reason for me to seperate them asap.
you always learn from your own experiences, no matter how tough they can be at times.keep your chin up my friend.
good luck
:)

I don't really think that there is a way to pinpoint exactly why snakes do this. It could be stress, could be the fact that one of the snakes smells like mouse. It could even be that one snake decided that he/she didn't want a cage mate anymore. I have heard Canablism happen even when both snakes are fed every 5 days on a strict schedule. So, frequency of feeding may not change this behavior.

I have kept two corns together for over 3 years now...male and female. Mostly this was because of space and number of vivs. After everything that I have read on here, I will be seperating them sometime this winter to early spring of next year. If you have the space, I would sugest you do the same.

:-offtopic From what I've read the cold heat soldering iron needs metal to complete a circuit and heat up. doesn't sound like it will work for burning holes in plastic.
