I went out to my friend’s house today to look at his albino rattlesnake collection. What a spectacular treat. Some of these are incredibly rare…
Northern Mojave het. Albino--C.s. scutulatus
Albino Northern Mojave
This is one of only 6 albino Northern Mojaves in the world. The original albino female was caught as a sub-adult near Ridgecrest, CA in 2001. This is one of 5 albino F2 offspring born in captivity.
Albino Prairie Rattler--Crotalus viridis viridis
Western Diamondback--Crotalus atrox
There are, evidently, quite a few variations of the albino gene in the Western Diamondbacks. Here's a few--
Amel
Bubblegum
Caramel
And a melanistic variety--
Black
And of course...peple have started to combine them--
Caramel + Black
Evidently, the Caramel + Black is brand new. Doesn't even have a name yet, and it's still very difficult to get a hold of.
All in all...I had a great afternoon taking photos of some incredible animals. Thanks for looking!
