How long after shedding should you feed?

Hiya folks,

Our corn snake about 10mins ago actually finished his second (fully intact) shed.

But I have a question.

How long after the shed has been complete should you feed them?

The first time he shed was in the early hours of the morning while we were asleep so we fed him later on that evening. Is there a set time i.e. 24 hours, or does it not really matter.

Because researching I got conflicting views about it so I'm a bit confused

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's 2 weeks tomorrow since his last feed as I was told not to bother feeding during the shed process by the reptile shop advisor when we first got him.

It doesn't matter. Me personally, I wait until the next feeding day to feed them just for simplicity's sake, but there's nothing wrong with feeding even immediately after the shed.

I just feed on their next normally scheduled day, but if you only have a snake or two and don't have a schedule to stick to, then the same day is fine. Infrequently, the snake won't eat immediately after shedding. And they are likely to poop in their feeding bin, because they've stored it up while in blue.

That won't be an issue as he has already done his business in the viv.

Thanks for the response, all advice is welcome :D will just feed him later on this evening :dancer:

Thanks for the response. I suppose it's looking like it doesn't really matter.

I was just a bit weary with all the conflicting information that is written down over the net.

Well he seems hungry anyhow so will just feed him later on this evening :D

It does sometimes feel like there are as many answers as there are Corn owners! The joy of Corns is that they do well with the majority of husbandry techniques. Get the basics the way your snake likes them, and you're away.

I have fed mine right after (about an hour) shedding, I also fed my little one (about a month old) the other day, I didnt notice he was in blue (the "cleared up" phase), he ate fine, no problems then shed 2 days later.
I agree there are many many opinions as to what to do and what not to do.
but my experience (little as it may be) differs from what I have read on certain subjects.

Lots of snakes won't eat while blue. Some will eat then regurge. That's what's complicated. Mine all eat as soon as they have crawled out of their old skins, if I offer, so if they are due to eat & just emerged in their shiny new skin, I feed, and have had no problems so far. If they don't eat, though, I plan to just call it a refusal & not worry too much.

Well he took the mouse with no problems whatsoever, I suppose if he wasn't ready for it then he won't take it.

It's good to know there are people out there who are willing to share there knowledge and experiences, and it is most appreciated.

My experience is that they suddenly have a voracious appetite immediately after shedding. Looks like yours did too!
