"Seattle" Reptile Expo?

Lycari

Desperate to Edit
Saw an ad for the 17th annual "Seattle" reptile expo on FaunaClassifieds. I went to check it out, only to see this listed as the location:

Puyallup Fairgrounds- Expo Hall
Puyallup (Seattle), Washington

So... wait. Is it in Puyallup or Seattle? Seattle I can do, but Puyallup's quite a drive! It seems likely that this could mean it's in two locations, one in each city, but then, why is the Emerald City Reptile Expo listed as, "Seattle's one and only reptile expo"? I was wondering if anyone else in my area might have some information on this. :shrugs:

It's in Puyallup, which no one outside of the south sound area knows what or where that is, so they bill it as Seattle to give people outside the area a reference point. If I went to another state and said I was from Tacoma, they would look at me like "huh?", but if I say Seattle, they're like, "oh!".

Emerald City Expo is competing with the Puyallup one and I think they want to look good so they bill it as the "one and only". Whatever.

Yep, it's in Puyallup. I wouldn't call it Seattle... But then, dionythicus has a point--I grew up in SW Washington, so I actually know what the heck Puyallup, Tacoma, etc are, where anyone who's never lived in the area has not a clue where you're talking about.

I think you should do it anyway! C'mon, it's not THAT much farther of a drive... ;) LOL. It's a good expo. Or, at least, it was the one time I was able to go (couple years ago). Still the biggest expo I've ever been to...

As far as the ECRE is concerned... There's the Seattle Metro in Renton, and the Puyallup show if you count it as Seattle (close enough, I guess...), so it most definitely is not Seattle's "one and only." :p

Huh, I didn't know there was one in Renton, I have family that lives there. Been wanting to go to the Puyallup one quite awhile. Have family that is about a 40 min to hour drive away from that one. Never have managed to get there at the right time yet.

Alrighty then. Maybe if I can find a job by then, I'll go ahead and drive down there. Until I find work, though, I just can't justify the gas for that kind of drive three times in one year; I've already been down in/through the area twice this summer. XD Thanks! :)

Yep! It was actually originally in Tacoma. I attended their first year, and the place was SO packed they had vendors spilling out into the hallway--they didn't even all fit in the room! They moved it up to Renton for the larger location. (Gotta say, though--I was pretty upset when they did that. I was so glad to have more than one expo within a reasonable [aka under 2.5 hrs] drive!!! Then they go and move it a full hour's drive farther away from me... Curse them. Lol)

Now we just need the SLC area to follow in Seattle area's footsteps--go from one expo to three in just 2 or 3 years (I think it was...)!

Wait, there's a Renton one? When? I only know about the ECRE and Joel's shows.

Considering I'm willing to drive down to Portland for a reptile show from downtown Seattle, I don't really think the shows can possibly be in that much competition. After all, we (PNHS) run the ECRE and always have a comped table at Puyallup, and I believe a designated representative at Wilsonville. Doesn't seem like much of a battle to me. I don't know, maybe I'm just more addicted to reptile shows than most people? Maybe most people only want one a year? ;)

The "Seattle's only" thing is meant to indicate that the ECRE show is the only one within Seattle city limits, because, yeah, Puyallup *is* a bit of a trek. But we don't mean to pretend it doesn't exist, because that would be ridiculous. Especially since we're all going to be there anyway. ;) I, of course, will be. That Saturday is my birthday, and I need to get Nick Mutton's new carpet python book for myself as a present! Might wait until Sunday for it, though.

Oh man, now I'm all excited again. I love reptile shows. And I think Puyallup will be my last one before I move to England and have to find out what they do for shows over there...

Oh, Renton *is* one of Joel's shows. :p Never mind. I must have missed it this year for some reason, but at least it's one I'd heard about!

Lol. You're not alone! My little home town is probably the same driving time to the Portland expo as south Seattle, and I still insisted on going to the Wilsonville show, and my first expo was the Hillsboro show (as it was "dying"--after that my mom deemed it to be not worth the trip anymore...) I'd have made the trek up to the Renton and ECRE shows my last year in WA, but unfortunately, I didn't have my driver's license yet and my mom wasn't going to take me up there just to look around. :(

And now that we're in northern Utah, where there's a whopping ONE expo per year within 500 miles (which is coming up the second week of October--SQUEE!!!), I've been looking for ways to get down to the Vegas and So Cal expos. Luckily, my dad is willing to plan trips to visit family in the area around expo dates. Woohoo!
