Forgot to do an intro!

I guess it would've made sense to do one of these first, huh?

Well, I'm still relatively new, so here goes: My name is Laura, and I received my first corn as a gift for my twenty-fourth birthday from my best friend. I've had him for two months now. He's a lavender named Kaven (Gaelic for 'handsome'), and currently weighs in at 8 grams, eating small pinkies.

He's not only my first snake, he's my first reptile; my parents aren't fans, so I could not have one as a kid, much as I wanted one. I'm really enjoying learning about him, and this forum has been incredibly helpful for those tips and tricks you don't find in the books.

So far he's shed once, and is doing very well. He's incredibly mild-mannered, tolerates handling well, and has yet to strike at me (though I harbor no illusions that will continue indefinitely, lol). I couldn't be more thrilled with him, and as soon as I get a camera I will upload some pictures.

Just wanted to say hello, officially.

Laura

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!!! Very nice introduction and I am glad everything is going well with your snake!

Welcome Laura!

You may luck out with your little guy's temperament. I have some that have never bitten and I can't even imagine them doing so. :) Then there are others...

I'm hoping! He's very mild. I imagine any potential strikes would be more the result of me startling him than him being actively aggressive. :)

And yeah, my friend ended up with a corn who hates her, apparently. She has to pick him up with tongs just to feed him.

Welcome!
And beware - cornsnakes are definately an addiction. I started with one as a pet two years ago and now have about 50!!

Ellohay, Auralay! Guess you've seen how much great info is on this ebsiteway. You will also find that everyone here is icenay.

Welcome!!!

as for your friend. kinda wanted to help them out since they are having problems. they cant be afraid of the snake. it shouldnt hurt if the snake does get ahold of them.. tell them that, and the only way to make it better is to handle them every other day or so except when they feed.

good boy alan!! you can no go to sleep.. here's a treat!! haha sorry.. geez arent they mean? i guess i wasnt much nicer..

Oh, she's not afraid of him. And she handles him frequently, and has been bitten as many times. She handles him with tongs now for his safety as much as hers. She's worried he'll hurt HIMSELF in his aggression toward her, not the other way around.

It's unfortunate, though. I wish I could help her too. Her other corn is a darling, apparently, but this one little dude just has it in for the world, I guess.

Hi, welcome! :wavey:

Springfield, MO is so pretty btw. I love southern MO. I was stationed out at Whiteman AFB back in 1995-1998 and I had been down in southern MO quite a bit, Lake of the Ozarks, Springfield area, Branson, etc. I was in the Kansas City Miata club and we'd often drive down that way and stay weekends down around Lake of the Ozarks plus I drove down to Springfield and Branson for inline speed skating meets. Beautiful country down there!
