Bought TONS of new things! Including another corn!

Wow, all I can say is wow lol. I thought I didnt know too much about snakes. I was sure wrong. I have been waiting for 4 months, reading on this site every single day catching all the new threads and posts trying to learn as much as I can before getting my first corn.

I just want to say something to the two new "tweens" (as someone called them before lol).... Listen to these people, they know what they are talking about. And not once have any of them came off as the all-knowing great ones. Sit your parents down on the comp, for as little as 5 minutes and have them read this ENTIRE thread that you have made. What your doing to your snakes is wrong. But im not here to flame you for it.

As for the person who is "saving up for another cage", go to your nearest store (Kmart, Target, Walmart, etc..) and buy a Sterlite container to house your snake as temporary housing. I spent a whopping, and yes Im a HUGE spender, $2.50. Yes, I had to charge that on my credit card (Hope I can pay that off in time). Lol, sorry for the sarcasm. But really, doesnt have to be anything really big and fancy. Just get the two snakes in seperate homes ASAP

One of the guys I work with had a situation like this. He had two juvenile Cal Kings and two 20L vivs. He was holding the snake with one hand and was cleaning out the viv a little with the other. He must have leaned on it because the viv slid off the stand and hit the ground. The viv was trashed. But thank goodness he had the snake in his hand. To make a long story short, he couldn't afford a new tank, so he cut out a piece of cardboard to fit snugly down the middle and duct-taped it in place. It wasn't pretty, but it temporarily housed them while he got a new viv set up!

People, the point is simple. What seems rational and logical to you, at your age, may seem different from a child's point of view.
A fine example that comes to mind is that the child's father paid for the snake and conditioned it under the condition that he won't have to spend anymore on it.
A kid may consider this to be a true obstacle, because he doesn't earn any money nor can he go to a store on his own.

Is this so far fetched?
It can happen, it's not your place to judge the pattern of thinking here... you don't know him, where he lives, the setting, his age, et cetera. It is unlikely that you will understand the situation properly... It also doesn't really effect to original recommendation- simply state that it co-habing can lead to complications and is discourages. Leave it at that... getting frustrated over it won't do you any good

Ok I separated them like you said. they were doing fine together.

Our concern is for the snakes, you just need to understand that we have their best intrest at heart.

But sure, it's never a problem, till there's a problem.

You did the right thing.

Not to keep bumping this thread but snakes and Duct Tape DON"T mix well. I'd hate to see the next post from snakenewbie be a "help my snake is stuck to the duct tape!"

I concur.
Often we think everything is honky dory - and then we find out it's not.
It's especially important with corns, mis-sexed corns are common, and when you cohab the opposite sex, they sometimes reproduce at far too young of an age resulting in a female that dies from egg binding.

Yeah, I totally agree. Duct tape and myself doesn't mix well at times either. I seen the set-up before and he made sure that there were no lose edges and that there were absolutely no edges coming up. I don't know if snakenewbie did the cardboard and duct tape thing, but yeah, be VERY,VERY,VERY, CAREFUL and make sure there's nothing it could get stuck on. (No edges coming up, no pockets, etc.)

no I put him in a plastic tub with air holes.
It works wonderfully. Actually none of my snakes (except one) are in a glass viv...they're all in racks in tubs. Just keep asking questions and honestly think about the answers - sometimes all that means is stepping away when you read someone saying something you don't like (or something that makes sense but in a not so nice way) and responding later.

(Oh yeah...are we ever gonna get to see pics of these guys...we love pics...)

It appears if she continues to ask questions she will continue to get flamed. Thank goodness for Koko for stating the things she said. It seemed to calm people and let them realize they were responding to a 13 yr old CHILD not an adult who did no research. Trust me my 18 yr olds do impulse buys that I have to constantly chastise them about. Please stop chastising this child and give her the help she so desires and needs.

I think that the bolded line is what I don't understand. I think that if she cools it off, reads a bunch and asks questions without making it sound like she hasn't read anything people will respond better. I was not trying to chastise her, but rather give her some encouragement to stick around and ask questions to help her learn. I work with teenagers on a daily basis so I understand the impulsiveness that comes with that age group. I'm not sure that I understand why this was just brought up AGAIN as this thread had come to it's natural end (thank goodness) and there wasn't any more flaming here. I do apologize if I came off as chastising her but I have to sit back and think before I post sometimes to make sure that I don't say something in the heat of the moment so I thought the advice would be helpful. Hopefully this thread will die down again unless it's Newbie posting some pics of her snakes.

How are Zoey and Cutter?

Have you fed them yet? If they are young and you are feeding them pinks, live are fine, if your dad objects to frozen. It is when the mice get teeth that it is best to feed them frozen/thawed.

Ok Zoey and Cutter are doing great! I fed Zoey last thursday and Cutter on friday. Cutter dosnt come out much and tries to bite me if I try to handle him :/

You probably weren't intentionally given false information.
However - while there are plenty of cohab cases that went dandy, there are also numerous tragedies that have resulted that were 100% preventable by NOT keeping several together.

i understand you cannot keep some snakes 2 gether but every1 id spoke to said corns where fine,do you no ne good sites on this?thanks

Cannibalism is less likely to happen in corns than in some species, but it still does happen.
Also - if the two are opposite sex (and don't trust what sex you are told) they may breed on their own before the female is old enough, resulting in her death.

lizard24, Did you read this whole thread? If so did you read the link posted on the second page, in post 17? That link is to a thread, one of many on this site I might add, about snakes eating other snakes, including corns snakes.

As to a good site about corn snakes? This is probably one of the best, if not the best, corn snake specific forum on the internet and don't forget the Americans have been keeping and breeding corn snakes a lot longer than us Brits, after all corns are native to America.
