I was at the pet store so i decided to look at the cornsnakes i saw one of them moving around and going upside down a few times it struke at the back and of the cage and then it struke at it self and started to constrict so i asked for an employe one came over and when he qent to go pick it up it was still latched on to itself and dead. I was worndering if anyone would know wat would cause a snake to do that?

That's so sad...

I personally don't know why they would do this but I remember reading another post a few weeks ago where somebody found their snake dead like that... Maybe they'll come in and post...

Sorry I'm not more helpful.

Sounds like it was in some sort of pain then decided to strike at the pain in defence. If that makes any sense.

Also from wat it looked like it was so skinny u could clearly see its back bone. This is like there 5 snake that had died there.

sounds like a pet store i'd really wanna stay away from. i can only imagine what else is going wrong there.

3. It happens but its probably poor care by the shop or by the breeder they by them from. But if you have a worry about this store, then do not shop there. I would not buy animals from any shop that regularly has dead animals.

Priceless. Just simply priceless.

My educated guess would be dehydration. Wrecks the kidneys and more than likely that's the spot the snake was striking at.

Just remember: punctuation is your friend!

But I do agree. This sounds like a store I would want to stay away from.

Curiously... why would they strike at the kidneys? That seems odd to me... I'm not saying you're wrong (because I honestly have no clue), I'm just asking for more details as I'm curious. :)

Short version: The kidneys are a filter. When there's less water in the body, there's more "things" in the remaining water to filter. The kidneys get plugged . . . ever have a kidney stone?! They're painful!!!

I think that Dritzz80 was going along with the post that said that it was probably striking at the pain.
it was striking at the kidneys because it was striking where the pain was coming from...

Okay that makes sense. Thanks Drizzt and Msskellington! :D

It's sad that the poor thing had to die. I went to a petstore that had a lot of sick puppies for sale. Bloody stool, vomit... (looked like parvo to me) It's very sad. :(

My first corn snake that I had, from a pet store did this. I don't know if he struck at him self. But I do remember walking in what night, and he was rolling over and all kinds of weird stuff. He died that night, but he had plenty of water and hides, etc. He did die within 7 days of me buying him so they did replace him. He wouldn't eat either.
