    Okay! Do you have an idea of how cool your room gets at night? If it stays over 70, you should be able to leave the heat mat off overnight until you get the thermostat in the morning. That way, you don't have to worry about overheating.
    Any thermostat will work. And I'd leave him/her alone for about a week. If it overheats, definitely turn it off for a little while, or at least put it on a lower setting.
    What are you using to measure temperature? My herp room is kept at 85*, and quite a few of my snakes feel cold when I pick them up. The human body is 98.6*. Anything below that is going to feel a bit cool, even if it is warm for a snake. Keep that in mind, because if it's too hot, you can burn your snake.
    i just got a corn snake 3 hours ago its my first snake and the substrate at the bottom feels abit cold i picked up my corn snake about 15 mins ago and he was cold
