My First Corn-2009 Okeetee Het Lava

Nitemare

New member
Hello! New member with his first Corn Snake here! As I stated in my Intro thread, I have been lurking for about 2 weeks...reading up on care information and checking out the DIY section, and Housing section, and decided to go ahead and register and get my first Corn! I didn't want to start with a little tiny baby, I wanted one that was already well established...so I picked out this 2009 Male Okeetee Het Lava.

I got to hand pick him from a local breeder (my friends Uncle) and he is a real beauty...unfortunately yesterday he went into deep blue and is getting ready to shed. So he's not the most colorful in the picture that I took of him...but here they are anyways :D

I have to thank HoosierHerper for the DIY where he painted the outside of the tank, because I totally copied it and it looks great!
The first 2 are his tank (which I am going to ad some kind of fake plant to), and the last 2 are of him...oh ya, his name is Nitemare ;)

Thanks for looking, and I am loving this website!

He is 175 grams...I don't think that is overweight for a snake that is a almost a year and a half old is it? It seems normal from what I've read, but I'm just basing that on stuff that I read on here so I'm not sure...

All you have to do is become a Contributing Member (see top green line) to get that edit button. And let me tell you, it's well worth it!

yeah i am aware of that thanks! I defiantly did plan on contributing! but its some of the people here made me reconsider whether i want to spend as much time on this website anymore!

might do it anyway though, I've gotten a lot of help on this site.

What type of okeetee is your snake supposed to be? Locality or line bred?

And yeah, he does look a big pudgy, but he's a handsome critter none the less.

Locality I believe...I have only heard of Abbott's line as far as linebred goes, and he's DEFINITELY not an Abbott's...he is really Orange when he's not in blue...hopefully he sheds soon!

When he isn't in blue he looks alot like the ones listed under Okeetee on Cornsnakes.net...do you guys think he is something else?

waiting on a shed...

Yeah,
My phantom (my avatar), is currently going through his shed...his eyes just cleared last night....won't be long.

Unfortunatly the first thing I thought when I saw him was, "he could stand to skip a few meals!", so I agree with the advice to put him on a diet.

That said, your tank looks beautiful! Great job, the black and wood look great. Once you get some fake plants in there it will look very nice. I'm sure you'll do very well, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the input everyone...I am thinking back him down to Hoppers...like 1 every 10 days or so just to keep him from getting hungry?

I am going to do a 20L here in the next few weeks so he'll have more room to get out and exercise at night :)

he should be eating once every 2 weeks. so every 14 days is regular. so you might be aiming for once every 3 weeks. first things first though... how often was he eating now? and what size mice eating? how many?
