Thats my 0.02 worth.

Can we all do that? i would love 30+ points just for saying "nice snake" in every post, but i dont see the point unless it is an unususal, or very good looking snake :shrugs: .

As I said before, this member doesn't look like he's a threat to the forum as he obviously doesn't plan on giving out any advice any time soon and so the fact he has built up rep points should not affect others on the site - no-one will be receiving bad advice from him and believing it to be good advice as he has a lot of points.

If someone feels the need to do something like this just to build up points on a forum then that's their choice - I'm just not sure whether him wasting his time doing this bothers me! Maybe he just likes looking at snakes?

I threw in an "Other" because while I agree that those "nice colors" types of posts should not count, there are really posts in other areas that should not count as well. While this and other treads are worthwhile, they really don't show any expertise in the area of husbandry. For what it's worth, I'd like to see Rep based on posts in Husbandry; Health; Behavior; Breeding; Natural History; Cultivars; and Miscellaneous only.

You didn't include a if they aren't hurting anyone, why should you care section on the poll. Who cares why or why not someone gives points. If I like what you have to say, I'll give you points, if I don't, I won't. Most of the time, I give someone rep points who has valuable, sensible information to provide. Occasionally, I'll give someone some that just is a nice person, and usually has something positive and nice to say. There can be quite a lot of bickering on this site, as people can be quite passionate about their opinions. If there's a person who remains a voice of reason in chaos, they deserve a point, even if it's not advice.

I made this poll due to noticing it as well as seeing that others were complaining about it. I just wanted to see what everyone thought about it. I'd personally like to see people come here and participate in threads, learn and help others as opposed to making a bunch of one liners in a photo gallery.

Instead of starting a posse behind the unnamed ones back (I've seen a few threads mentioning this person), I sent Robert Gallery a PM, asking him to slow down on the one sentence replies.

He seemed to have no idea what was going on. Long before the were rep points, there was a user (well, why not name names- Simon) who commented on every photo as well. It seemed every photo was followed by the same person saying "Wow, nice snake."

And there was another user who would say "I agree with Elrojo" every time I would give advice on regurges and so forth.
This drove me crazy.
But such is the Internet, and forums. I think we are best served contacting the "offenders" directly. Only a few (Cornman, Packerfan) will be true jerks about it.
Of course, someone will probably give me a red point for this... Oh, wait.

Yep, this poll is null and void now.

Honestly no offence at all to you, Dand. I tend to like reading your comments, bits of humour and sarcasm but I think this thread is what pushed Rich over the edge and pull the plug on the rep system.

Of course Cornman didn't help the situation any either!

Just my 0.02 worth.

Agreed. And I'm swimming in the irony of it all.

I could care less about implications to the points system...

Throwing out the occasional compliment is fine and dandy, but forcing a response for every single picture is unnecessary. It just gets annoying having to filter through them day after day after day.

If you're crying wolf all the time, people are eventually going to stop listening to what you have to say. ;)

I have to agree with Meg. Its also nice to hear a voice of reason turn around a thread that has a lot of petty bickering or beating of the proverbial dead horse. For serious topics, I don't really care how many rep points someone has. Every post is evaluated based on how much sense it makes to the situation at hand and from other research. If you're a newbie looking for information, don't depend on the information from one thread on one forum for all your answers. Research multiple threads, forums and other topic related sites to get your answers. Lots of careless information on the internet, best to corraborate what you learn.
Always found it fascinating when certain people reply to every picture!? I usually only reply when I REALLY like a picture and there aren't a ton of responses. On the other hand, I rarely post pictures so a little feedback is always nice - even if its 'a little out of focus'. Besides, I rarely go the photo gallery to read posts.
I guess its a moot point, the rep system is gone now. I don't blame Rich, sounds like it was starting to create extra work. :uzi:

All of the posts you quoted were kind comments. Simon was complimenting photos before the reputaion system and I don't know if Robert Wallace is even aware of it. Some people come here to see photos . If you look at wich areas get the most hits ,it's probably the photo gallery.
So now we have a thread and a poll wich only gives negitive options about one man who has only ever been kind to everyone.
I have more of a problem with people that were making posts just to get points, breaking into insperational speaches in the middle of theards about feeding cornsnakes. :shrugs:

Personally, I think it has nothing or little to do with the rep system but perhaps an easy way to get a high post count?

Some people here, seem to be under the impression we are all in some sort of a contest to see how many posts we can get. Maybe in many regards the deem this as a sort of a "self reputation" system. If you have alot of posts people will like you or value you more to the community or whatever. Of course this is strictly speculation on my behalf.

There are quite a few people, some have been around longer than others, that post useless drivel consistantly! No matter if they are right, wrong or indifferent! They just post to post and see that little ticker click one more notch higher in value.

There's people here that have only been here a few months with 500-1000+ posts and if you look into the history of their posting, it's mostly nonsense!

I sure hope I wasn't one of the people you were referring too. I have only been here since October and I have a preety decent amount of posts. However, I am not going into different forums and giving a bunch of one lined sentences either...

Nah, that wasn't directed toward anyone in particular. Just my little rant on how I see things progress at times.

And that's the difference, my friend!

I've been doing this and I thought it was working...guess not.

My only complaint is that it tends to mess up the order on the photo gallery. I don't always remember which posts I've looked at or not, and suddenly ALL of them are bolded, as if they are all unread.

Since the rep points are null and void (just as it was starting to get interesting), it doesn't really matter, but I figure people are not going to take advice from someone who doesn't give it in the first place. A person with 400 rep points who only makes comments like nice snake, is not offering any advice, so there's little worry about someone thinking that they know something. They aren't saying anything that's going to hurt anything. Over the year or so on here, I've learned who the people are with experience, and best of all, common sense. When I need help, they're the one's I'll be listening to, contacting on the chat forum, or p.m. If new people come on the site, and they seem to have good comments that make sense, I add them to my list of people to listen to. The rest, you take with a grain of salt.
