Our new mastiff puppy

What addiction?!
She's finally here! This little..um.. big girl is a 4 month old English Mastiff. Considering we have so many children, one of which is only 3, we wanted a big, lovable and loyal breed to add to our family. We have a 1 1/2 yr old lab already and she is one big spoiled brat. So once this girl settles in, I'm sure the spoiling will commence. LOL She will be given the really good "spoiling treats" while she is learning to potty out side. :)

I am a bit concerned with her behavior towards our other dog at the moment. But hope this will improve over a few days time. You can read about that here...http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87915

We have not picked a name as of yet. We are thinking some thing like "Sophie" or "Asia". But I don't know yet, it takes me a while to pick a good name.

Beautiful dog. I have an English Mastiff back home that is going on 10 years old named Matilda. She has a little trouble with her hips, but she's still around. They are really sweet dogs.

She is such a beautiful dog and English "massives" are definitely a lovable breed. The funny thing is they can be safer than Chihuahua's most of the time, and are known to be really great with children. Here's a link to a list of popular names for girl dog's; http://www.dognameswoof.com/girldognames.htm. Some are kind of weird, but it might lead you to a name. We named our dog Ciana after her grandmother, but it was either that or Quana. Have fun picking a name for her, and I'm sure when you hear it you'll know. Congrats on the new puppy!!!.

Congrats! I love mastiffs! A close friend of mine has two italian mastiffs (cane corsos) and they are the biggest lap dogs out there!

My aunt has a bull mastiff, its kinda old and is stands up to my stomach when it is on all fours, and i'm about 6 foot. I myself have a lab/rot mix and weighs 120 pounds. Whats worse, he thinks he is a lap dog. Occasionally he'll come lay on me while i sleep. NOT COOL!!!

She is so cute! Congrats, they are great dogs. My sister had one four 6 years he had to put to sleep a few years ago because he had cancer and was having seizures. He was a great dog though, very friendly and great with kids. He also protected my sister, she was talking him for a walk and saw a guy hitting a girl and yelled at him. The guy then came after her. My sister told the dog to get him and he jumped on the guy and pinned him down.

I don't have any advice for helping your dogs to get along but I really hope they settle down in the next couple days. Good luck and congrats.

ENVY!!! I love mastiffs! And she's so cuuutttteeee!!! Congratulations! (Oh yeah, and I vote Sophie!)

Mastiffs are amazing. We babysat a bull mastiff for a while when I was a toddler and she was the sweetest, most laid back dog... She would lay in the kitchen in front of the cupboards and my little brother and I would use her as a stepping stool to get to the counter. Lol! =)

Thanks every one! My kids think she is just great. I told them to make sure our other dog gets extra attention right now so she wont feel left out. :) I'll post pics of her a few months from now so you can see how she's doing.

She's beautiful. Can't wait to see pics as she grows.
I wouldn't worry TOO much about her aggression at the moment. but if it doesn't stop in a couple weeks I'd definitely seek out a professional trainer.
Good luck to you and hope all goes well.

Cute puppy, congrats! There is nothing that can prepare you for how enormous English Mastiffs are unless you've seen one up close, they are HUGE. My mother's Maltese came from a couple that also bred Mastiffs, and they were like gentle giants with the little Maltese puppies.

*as for names*

The people my mother knows named one of their Mastiff puppies Kiara (key-are-uh), which I liked. The mother and father were named after Lion King characters, but I forget who.

I can only relate her/his behavior to a friend of ours who brought their 14 week old chow puppy over to our house years ago. That puppy attacked(not playful like) both of my dogs at the time. I knew that puppy would be trouble. The owners thought it was cute. In the end that dog ended up being a menace and had to be taken away from the owners.
PLEASE, take both dogs to a trainer and allow him to do whatever he can to make both your dogs and any other dogs and people be familiar to the puppy so it doesn't feel the need to show aggression,

I posted this picture in my other post too. But for those that didn't see it here they are today. The attitudes on both dogs has changed drastically since yesterday. As I type, they are both laying at my feet sound asleep.
