Are you really keeping him? He's too cool. Maybe get some local females and see if they produce blues with him.

I will probably keep him if i can catch or purchase another blue one.
A friend on mine bred them a few years ago.He dug a small pond in his yard and introduced only blue ones.
He did start producing them in good numbers.
Thanks Rob

That's great Rob, I happen to have a Blue female do you want to do a breeder loan?
Let me know
John

Very cool! He'd be awesome in my planted tank. Something like that, I wouldn't even mind if he eats my guppies, lol.

I have a Blue girl and a Blue boy. I haven't had babies yet though. They sell in the aquarium trade for a pretty penny. He is a beautiful lil guy.
I wonder what he would taste like????LOL

Terri

If you don't pair off with John's, I'd happily send you my pair.

Thats cool

We once were catching crayfish as bait,we came across 3 at one time, they were all eating a decaying rat! That pretty much really grossed me out!!!:puke01:
Although I have eaten them as a kid I dont think I would ever eat another one after seeing that!
That Blue one is cool though!;)

Rob, is the Blue a different species or just a color morph?
Same species (Procamburus Calrkii) just a different color morph.
It is a recessive trait.Blue X Blue breeding produces all blue babies.
I saw one years ago that was half blue and half red.
The colors were split down the middle of the body.
One whisker was blue the other the normal black color.
Very bizarre looking lol.

Do you know if the ones in the aquarium trade are a different species?

My friend used to breed them and sell to dealers for 5.00 ea.

I have a few people on my forum that have breeding pairs as well. Good luck with them. They're really gorgeous specimens!

LOL, my crays love pinkies!

Congrats Rob!

The colour is amazing - I dont think we get anything like that in the UK - although we do have a problem with an invasive species of crayfish in some of the rivers here.

Most anything I have ever caught in the sea or anywhere else is a lovely shade of silt brown :( although we did used to have crested newts in the local pond (since dried up) which had a lovely yellow speckled underside and were very rare even then...

reminds me - I will have to look and see what the situation is with those

Rob, that is one cool looking mudbug. I wonder if and how the color would change when boiled? :licklips:
