"Topaz" vs. "Neon" Butter Motley
Topaz seems to be fitting since Chuck waited to see what a Lava Caramel looked like before using the name. Only three exist, so the name certainly is not set in stone. It looks extremely promising that more will be produced in 2007 and when the Caramel Motleys and Lava poss hets begin to breed, even more should be available. Here is a couple of photos of her brother compared to an extremely yellow Butter Motley.
I am beginning to see some pretty extreme yellows pop up that seem to be more than the Caramel gene usually makes, especially since some het Caramels are also extremely yellow. Since it is widely believed that Caramel is truly recessive, there seems to possibly be another yellow “causing” gene mixed in with many Caramel lines.
Lava Caramels certainly scream Lava. When comparing them to an Amber hatching the extreme difference is really seen. I personally think the eyes set the multiple Lava combo morphs apart combined with their Ultramel like similarities. Lavas seem to always have a light shade of blue to the background color of their head pattern as well, especially when young. The main difference is most Ultramels darken as they age, where the Lava combos hold their look more.
I wanted to shoot a comparison between a Goldust and Topaz, but I didn’t have any male Goldust that were not opaque. The Topaz actually have more of an extreme reduction in melanin than the Goldust do.
