Adopted Malnourished corn - Feeding / Shedding question

Congratulations on your snake and on being such a good owner, you are doing all the right things!

Here is a link to a really thorough post from Lennycorn that might be able to answer some of the questions you might have and have not yet asked
http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showpost.php?p=338016&postcount=2

With regards to the feeding, I usually decrease the frequency of feeding as the size of the food increases. Something like this:
Pinkies: one every 4-5 days
Fuzzies: one every 5-6 days
Small mice: one every 7 days
Medium mice: one every 10 days
Large mice: one every 10-14 days

What you can do, but I don’t think she needs it, to assist with weight gain is to cut the skin on the back which would make her digest it quicker therefore bulk up.

For the exercise, I take mine out 24/36hrs after feeding providing they do not have a noticeable lump and just handle them for a while.

Now, there are a couple of things you can do so that you do not get pooped on. If she suddenly stops and lift her tail (not much) it usually is a sign that they are about to. If there is a lump by her vent on the side towards her body and not the tail, it is very close to come out. In either cases: run … LOL

Last week I did not pay attention and he pooped IN my t-shirt, not a pleasant experience!

With the shedding, sometimes mine do not she in one piece but it is only due to the skin catching onto something and her pulling and it just rips so if it is in pieces because it is ripped and not because there are some pieces of skin left on your snake, no big deal.

An Okeetee/Okeetee Phase would have thicker black borders.
Yours is what is called a Normal and beautiful one at that ;)
By the way, have you given her a name?

I agree with bitsy, try putting more hides in there so that she has places to stay and is able to regulate her temperature. I have 5 hides in one of the vivs and 3 and the second one but am getting more.

If she is “happy” just to mellow out on your hand, good for you, you inherited a calm snake.

I personally have two Normals and would not let them go for anything in the world!

Welcome to the forum and as gwb8568 put it “to the addiction”

Well, she needs a name now doesn't she?

Funny you should ask. Was just thinking of that! I thought it would be fun to have my friends here at the forum help me name her. I sort of think of her as "this forum's pet" since outside of Kathy's book everything I've learned about taking care of her came from you guys!

I'm gonna open another thread in a different category - so stay tuned and help me name "our" snake!!!
