Adult Snakes in Tubs

I like the big water bowls because the ones I act as a second hide they can hide inside and around. They seem to love it. Plus, for some reason, I have several snakes that love to soak in their bowls. Theres nothing wrong with elaborate set-ups. I feel since they are in my care, they should have as many options to hide and climb around as possible. Therefore, there is now less space in that tub for them to move around.

Seems contradicting to me that when we (on the forum) specify tank size for snakes, we all say that they should be able to completely stretch out on two or three sides of the tank. Tubs dont seem to follow that same rule... strange?

Also remember when purchasing a young snake is that a lot of them will change in appearance and sometimes rather drastically. Just something to keep in mind.

Yeah I've noticed that in some of the progression threads but their all so beautiful anyways.

Yup. To me it is the best part of getting young ones is seeing what happens after every shed. It is like christmas all the time. Once the wrapper comes off I get a whole new shiny object to admire.

Hmm I have to wonder if you guys mean the tubs that are those sizes that are tall or the ones that are long? Corns don't really need vertical space so mine are in long and short tubs. I have my adults in the ones that are about 3 feet on the long side, 1.5 feet on the short side and 6 inches deep. Gives lots of cruising room and I have no issues with bad sheds or chubby snakes. I would list the qts or litters or whatever but I have long since removed the tag stickers from them and can't remember lol. Though I do have one snake that seems to need a tub slightly longer/wider and I am looking at the next size to see if I can find it without being too tall.

Most of my snakes are in tubs, varying in size from
4qt to 66qt. I use both UTH and Heat cables with mine.

I use sterelite tubs. They come in these sizes:

I have most of my snakes on the 56 Quarts.
But, I'm switching over to the 41 Quarts because I like the floorspace (easier to put big water dishes in) and none of my corns are climbers. (I've tried vines and hammocks and sticks- no go)

Hatchlings to yearlings go in 6 quarts. At about 2 ft, the go to the adult size.
I'm going to make a track system this year that will hold 41 quarts sideways, three 6 quarts, or two 28 quarts.

This will make it so I have more room for newbies that I breed.

I put two rows of air holes in my sterelites. SMALL holes. I learned this after a snake managed to fit his head (and only his head) through a hole and got stuck. I use a drill bit or a hot glue gun, the sand the holes down nice and smooth.

Then I use binder clips to secure the lids.
(the rack will eliminate the need fir clips, making accessing the snakes that much easier).

Here is a quick pic of my snake room. It is a mess in this pic, and I'm cleaning so you will notice spray bottles and vivs in disarray.

Heck, i went into a show with my boyfriend so he could buy himself one corn as a B-day present. We came ou with 4, the next day we went back for 2 more... now we have 12 corns, 5 Ball pythons and 22 eggs :p

I keep most of mine in Tubs with a few in tanks. I do have a few of the 16q tubs that are taller because i have a couple that LOVE to climb. My big time climber is in a 10gallon tank now and is always stretched between his vines. A 10gallon tank will last a while for corns, if you really want to watch your corn a tank is better though the 16q tubs work well too. I find the flat ones harder to look through...

IMO if you only want one snake, get a 10gallon off craigslist (normally around $10s) and a screen with clips. Then get a jar and set it next to the tank and drop change in everyday. Then in a year or two when your snake is ready to upgrade to a 20 long (normally enough space for an adult) you empty out your change. If you put change in everyday you should have at least half the amount to get a new tank(Zilla are the best so around 70? i think). Of course you can always go back to Craigslist and see if you can find one there for around 20-30 dollars.

It's also coming up to garage sale season...a lot of times you can find tanks at garage sales for not too much money as well. That's what I'm planning to do this summer. Most of our snakes are in sterlite, but I would like a couple big tanks to display a few of them in.

Yeah. I'm hoping to find a tank at a garage sale, If I don't just build one myself. Haven't decided what I want to do yet.
