Anery? Ghost? Stripe? Motley!?

Fuzzoodle

New member
Looking to get some other opinions on this snake. We picked her up from a reptile shop a few days ago. My first thought was anery stripe, but she's got some motley markings, so I'm not sure. A few people have looked at her and said ghost stripe? I know breeding is the only way to tell 100% for sure what she is but we would appreciate any speculation!

She's only 110g now, so won't be able to breed for a couple years most likely.

Any input appreciated!!

Yeah, Juvenile Yellow Rat snake, or at least a cross with one. That, sadly, is not a pure corn.

The yellow rats are really cool though!

Are you sure it's not a pure corn? It looks to me like an anery motley.

Looks like a pin-striped anery motley to me as well. I googled juvenile yellow rat snake photos and none of them look like this snake. The stripe was always similar to a regular striped corn...smooth not "jagged" like a pin-striped motley such as this snake shows. Also, I couldn't find one that had both the stripes and the motley-ish saddles like this one.

Looks like a striped anery to me. Usually motley stripes have that little bridge of color across the dorsal right behing the head. But this snake also has some motley-ish patterning, and it would not be suprising if it is carrying both stripe & motley stripe, as the two have been bred back-n-forth a lot. Which, I suspect, as a side note, may be one of the genetic causes which leads to the broken up stripes we see on a lot of cornsnakes.

That's what you get when you look at pics on a Blackberry phone...The color and it's head was throwing me off looking at it (and driving didn't help either ;) ) Yeah I'd go with anery motley or mot/stripe

Couple more pics, got a belly shot and another dorsal (kinda) pic. Not the greatest pics (taken on a blackberry lol)
I googled juvenile yellow rat and couldn't find anything remotely similiar to her, so I'm pretty sure she's pure corn.
My fiance's hoping she's a ghost. I personally think she's way too dark to be a ghost, and so far everyone's saying anery as well.

Amen brother!! I was using my teeny cell too!

I'll retract that.

i would go for a anery motley/stripe or a ghost motley/stripe,
here's some pics of my male ghost motley/stripe.

I would say anery stripe/motley. Sometimes the anery het. amels have a ghost looking head so it could be het. amel.

What would the het amel have anything to do with this? It's a recessive trait which means it doesn't express at *all* unless there are two copies. A *lot* of corns have a lighter head, because they don't seem to get the same melanin wash there that they do on the rest of the body.

Just MO, but I would venture to say she's a got some yellow rat in her. Look at the head, it screams yellow rat to me.

What specifically about it makes you think that? I don't see anything out of the norm for a corn snake.

The lack of head pattern, yellow on the nose and the relatively large head compeered to the body. All characteristics of the yellow rat.

Except that there IS a head pattern (it's just reduced, quite often seen on striped or motley animals. In fact, stripes are rather well known for having 'rabbit ears'), most aneries... most corns! have yellow on their nose. And the head doesn't look disproportionate.

I blew up the image and I think your right, but notice I did say "IMO"

I did notice that. But just as if someone says "I looks like a candycane, IMO" to something that is clearly a sunglow, I'm going to correct them and point out the differences, to help them learn.
