just seen the ipad from apple is gonna beo ut soon for 499 dolars. (american)

loks just like a giant ipod touch if you ask me. waste of money.

they are out to screw us. but people will buy because its apple. your paying for the name is all.

i am a proud itouch owner. i love it. better than a zune in my mind.

but your paying for name nothing more

I know! it should be named "iGiant-internet-time-suck". It's a decadent toy, in the release he didn't even try to sell it as something functional that you could use for stuff, just "oh look, time magazines web site" and "look at my vacation photos".

But you know they already have the next upgraded releases planed. It's only going to get more useful, I would like a pen tool and to see it function as a tablet for other computers, or as a cintique. As far as I can tell, right now it doesn't have the "guts" to back it up, it's all fluff and "there's an app for that" BS.

I was a big fan of apple 10 years ago, but the new OS's (the cat ones) are just....ugh. Bring back nightshade, stop making everything over-designed, round and animated and shiny with reflections. I do have an ipod, and I love it. But apple hasn't been impressing me in a while.

Nobody else has anything REMOTELY as cool. You aren't paying for just the Apple symbol. There is real content there.

I don't own any Apple products. I am a Rhapsody person, so my MP3 of choice is made by Sandisk. My cell phone is Samsung. PC is hand built, powered by Intel.

Their products aren't for me, but they are one-of-a-kind.

when it comes to computers im a pc person. my netbook is a lenovo and my regular pc is a handbuilt.

but mp3 wse im an apple person

There was an ad on my local radio the other day making fun of the iPad.

"If you liked the Apple iPad, try the new Apple iTampon!"

It went on into further detail...

It does everything my phone does! Except fit on my belt. Who needs that? I can see some different app possibilities because of the screen size, but why not by a laptop?

Anything apple sucks. and is over priced.

What Apple products are you familiar with? I was considering buying a Mac for my next desktop, but I don't want to change that much if it's going to make me angry.
The thing that made me consider buying a Mac is my new phone. It's a nice device, versatile, intuitive, easy to operate. It makes everything easy to do, and it's way more than just my phone.
I figured the rest of their products would be similar, but like I said, I don't want to be mad because I changed something I've been using for years.
I did also use an iPod for music until I had a phone with an MP3 player. It was a pretty good device also.

Regarding the ipad specifically I feel like the above poster. The ipad does not have multitasking, or a USB. It also does not run flash, and to make things worse it has an ATT deal. If you like apps and such then just get a phone at least then it is conveniently sized and can take pics.

Regarding Apple products in general, we are strongly a PC family. In fact my husband and I have a bargain with each other. He wont ever bring home an Apple anything and in exchange I will you know keep him, and in return I will not ever bring home and Apple anything so he will you know keep me LOL.

I am an Apple person. My desktop is an iMac G5 with iSight, and my laptop is 13" Macbook Pro. I also have a 60 gig iPod Photo, and an 8 gig iPod Touch. I love all my apple products, and would definitely recommend them to anyone. Everyone needs to remember that this is the first of it's kind. The 8 gig non-3G version is very appropriately priced. I also would like to see a pen function, as well as the ability to install separate programs. I would also like to see an expandable memory option. Hopefully all in good time. :)

I love, love, love my iPhone. Couldn't live without it. But I have no interest in this silly iPad!

I've used both Mac and PC, for personal use as well as at various jobs. While most people are either harcore pro-PC or pro-mac, I say it depends on what you want to use it for.

They are a little different, you may find yourself asking around about how to do some things at first. But most of it is intuitive, like your ipod, and once you pick it up it's a snap. If you've been using a PC for a long time, and like it and have no problems, I'd say don't bother changing. Macs are more expensive, slicker, less customizable, much easier to use if you're not computer savvy, more stable, have less software available, and less third party hardware. It really comes down to preference, I want to make it clear I like both, but personally prefer a mac. The only reason I have a PC now is that my friend got a killer deal for me, and my mac was getting old. Plus, it is really nice to play all the old NES games.

I mostly agree, Betsy. I have actual anxiety nightmares about being physically separated from my iPhone. I don't think the iPad's silly, and if my funds weren't limited, I'd get one, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on much.

Been using Macs my whole life (Dad is an architect and mom is a graphic designer so I grew up with them). Never have owned a single PC. Currently have a 13" MB Pro, iPhone, and 60gb iPod. I'm not one of those "fan boy" types who uses them just because its cool. I've been with them since forever and for me they're the best computer.

However, as it is, I think the iPad is so-so at best. It does too little for too much. It needs to be able to multi-task, run flash, and have a USB port. Without any of those things its a complete waste IMO. I suppose if you compare it to a Kindle it has some pluses like the applications and color screen. But overall I was expecting more and am disappointed in it.

I'm generally a huge fan of Apple and I usually recommend their products to people but I am really unimpressed with the iPad. I'm another who couldn't live without my iPhone and I looove my Macbook and my iPod but I don't really see a reason to have one of these. What's the difference between this thing and my iPhone? Sure it's bigger, so that means I have to carry it around in my purse instead of my pocket, and I can't make calls on it. It doesn't even have flash capabilities or a camera. On top of all that, it's associated with AT&T who already have more than enough problems handling the data used by all the iPhones on their 3G network. No thanks.

I, too, am I huge fan of Apple. Love my iPhone and my iPod. I've never, ever liked Macs. That said, I find the iPad to be an interesting concept, but just not worth the price. I think they're testing the waters with this model and that in a few years (probably less) will have all the functions that many of you have listed here. That's just what Apple does. It's not good marketing to release that "alpha" product and then have nowhere to go. It's really just more screen to break, imho.

Found this quite funny (and nostalgic)...
