Bad smell

I hope this is the right place for this question.

I came downstairs the other morning and there was a very strong and unpleasant smell emanating from the area of the room where I keep Cleo's viv. I figured she must have pooped and gave her viv a full clean, she had shed the day before and as it was feeding day I thought I might just as well do the full clean. So i emptied the viv out gave a good spray with the disinfectant (Bea something?), left it to dry and then put new substrate in etc., this was 2 days ago and the smell is still lingering - I am getting the evils from the family about this and really need to know is it snake poo i'm smelling? i've never noticed it so strong and acrid before. It has an almost "burnt" odour to the smell.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this smell would be much appreciated.

It doesn't sound like any snake poo I've ever smelled. What do you have Cleo in--plastic or glass? Do you have a UTH? Maybe it's melting the plastic?

She is in a wood viv with sliding glass doors, she has a heat mat and no it doesnt smell like poo to me, whilst they're a bit smelly once removed and flushed no longer smells, I assumed that giving a full clean would elimate the smell, i don't believe its musk as i've never seen her do that, she's very docile and doesn't get stressed to want to musk but as i've never smelt it it may well be that, the viv also sits directly on the carpet.

Get the snake in a temporary setup and inspect the viv and everything around it. I don't think the snake is the cause. You use a regulator for the heat mat right?

i've discovered the problem now it was the heat mat, cleo is now in a temporary tank whilst i give her viv a clean, tomorrow i will be getting a new mat and thermostat

thank you for all your replies and advice, it is appreciated.

In relation to this, ive just got a new corn snake, hes a yearling motley stripe and man he stinks.. sometimes i get a really strong fishy smell sort of comin from his viv.. I think it was his poo but it was inside the hide aswell where there was no poo... anyone know what that is? it could be musk i suppose as he is quite close to my female ghost, but shes only a hatchling so shes not producing pheromones yet...

I didn't know musk was different than feces. I've smelled the grass clipping odor when popping hatchlingsm not too bad. I thought the point of musk was to smell awful...

My snake sprayed some green slime at me once that smelled like wet grass. I just thought is was musk; it sure wasn't poop.

Well since we are talking p oo and p ee here anywauy
I was bathing yours truly yesterday (still the tail shedding
And he doen a you know what in the bathwater.
However appart from this brown turdish kind of thing ther was some yellowish granules separate from it.

WTF/H?

I think the yellowish granules can be the concentrated urine. Snake urine comes out like a powder or a bit paste like (wet powder)

Dawn=dish soap. Ivory, dawn, palm olive.

Musk smells like grass clippings or dandelions to me, but I have noticed that other people think that it smells more like rotten eggs or the like.
I think it doesn't smell all that unpleasant, but after a snake has musked me I have been ordered to shower and change. Shrug.

Yes, musk is greenish when I've seen it.

Poo/Pee looks like a brown lump and white/yellow clay clumps usually. It can be greenish if the snake hasn't eaten in a while. It can also have fur in it.

So hemipenes smell like grass clippings? o_O

So I should bath him in normal dawn and warm water? what is normal dawn? aha

I would. Nothing worse than trying to handle a corn and smelling this horrible smell...

This is the stuff I'm thinking of:
