BANDED CHARCOAL OKEETEE...

Meet little mr no name (for now), the Banded Charcoal Okeetee from Don Soderberg at SouthMountainReptiles (aka SMR).

I originally was asking around about charcoals and anery's and was referred to Don by another Breeder (Thanks Graham at SCE!). Don then told me about his "Banded Charcoal Okeetee" which I hadn't heard of before. He emailed the first photo below and I was won over by the elegant coloration and the 'cute factor'.

Little mr no name was delivered this morning at 10:06am, weighing in at 12 grams. The first photograph was taken by Don, the rest I took, so please forgive that mine are not very good for focus lighting and such. I was trying my camera out on Macro with one hand, and had a very squirrley little mr no name in the other.

When we saw this photo, the names "Wishbone" and "Slingshot" came to us...

This is where my pix begin. His head marking looks like a Chalice...

I LOVE His "Alice Cooper" eyes and eye markings...

Very nice. I emailed back and forth with Don about this particular animal last week. I was trying to decide betwen the one you got, and a charcoal with a very light, upper keys-ish color. I chose the latter along with some other goodies. But I was really tempted to get your one. Congrats!

I do! I emailed Don and am waiting for his permission before I post anything (since it was all in personal email between us). As soon as I get that permission, I'll post! Thank you for the compliment.

With Written Permission for Me From Don At SMR...

“I'm working with a line of banded Okeetee Charcoals now that are amazing. What I like about them (aside from the thick black borders and banded markings) is that the adults maintain the deep black markings. Those would be the only charcoals we produce that are truly dark and demonstrate high ground to blotch contrast. Here's a pic I snapped a few minutes ago." SEE BELOW "The brown you see inside the markings and in the ground color zones gives way to gray or silver to increase the contrast between black blotch margins and the adult gray ground zones.

You are the very first person to buy one of those from me. I've been getting one or two of those each year for the past four years, but you were my first customer….I think we're going to have a nice new morph here at SMR. I knew it would be a hit, cuz in all the years I've been breeding corns, I've never seen a banded charcoal and never saw one that demonstrated the dark "Okeetee" blotch margins. I only produced three this year, so hopefully next year will be my first year to get an entire clutch of them. The one to three I get from breeding the Okeetee father to the only adult female banded charcoal.

I may only sell one more of them, but at least it will be a morph that will be featured on my new web site (hopefully launching on the Internet before Dec. 1st).”
