beauty snakes anyone??????????? please i cant be the only one to have one!!lol

could you see both pics or just 1 i can only see one for some reason. yeah i figured she was taiwan i was about 95% sure

So, there really seems to be a wide take on the personality of these snakes between the comments here and at Fauna. I'd like a overview of why the disparity, are the individuals that different? Are most Satan's spawn with a calm one here and there? The other way?

And silly me, where does the blue part of the name come from?

there are many different types of asian rat snakes the taiwanese are supposedly the most mild manored and usually (based on this form) only aggressive when hungry and even that is rare. the radiated rat snake have been refered to as satans little spawns in my research anyways, i think you must have read stories about the radiated rat snake which is closley related to the taiwanese. different species or subspieces. hopefully i am somewhat accurate, im pretty sure i am. hope this helps.

and the blue comes from the asian ratsnake the blue beauty again another different sub species, i geuss it must have a blue hue or something blue to it, ive never seen one in real life.

My two little beauties...

I love these guys....the only pair of stripes I own. :D

The first is Ripley, the female 2004 Cave Dweller (Ridleyi).

My parents used to own a blue beauty and they're a true blue colour (like pale blue china). I'll have to see whether I can dig up a photo somewhere.

Here are pics of my Tiawan X Cave Dweller Intergrades, and a pic of one of my pure Cave Dwellers.
Both of my pairs are completely mellow. I used to own the parents of my Cave Dweller hatchlings/yearlings but I sold them at a time when I needed the quick cash. The parents were completely pissy and loved to bite and run. I was expecting the worst when I bought some of thier babies, but to my pleasent suprise, they are both puppy dogs. :shrugs:

Asian Rats

Carol...that intergrade is awesome!

This is a cool thread. I've always been a fan of the Asian Rats. I've bred Mandarins, Caves, & Blue Beauties in the past. This year I'm breeding Calico Chinese Beauties and have some other Asian Elaphe projects coming from a friend in Europe later in the year. I'm going ot start getting back into the Asians again.

Here's a few pics...

No, they're not hyrids. They're Elaphe taeniura taeniura, the Chinese Beauty. They're quite a bit smaller than most of the other taeniura subspecies. These seem to average about 3-4 feet as opposed to the others. I've seen taiwans, blues, and caves reach lengths well over 6-7 feet.

The first ever Calico was wild caught and was purchased and bred in the 90's by a breeder in Germany. He later sent most of the second generation babies to the US. There's a handfull of breeders in the US that have them now.

I recently picked up another trio of Blues. The male has finally calmed down enough to take a few pics.
