best kind of snake?

I still say a red tail. I now I want one and Iv'e seen many people on this sight have them and they look really cool and are in the requirements of your friend.

I would say a Rainbow Boa :)

1) Beautiful

2) Big, but not overpowering

3) Good disposition

4) Awesome looking snake plus I love all boas :D

If I had room for a snake that got a little bigger that would be my first choice :) But alas I have a small house and no room for a big boa tank

haha after pricing out some indigos for myself i came across rainbows as theyre more in my price range and now i want a rainbow too!! and static, i saw a couple rainbows that only got 3-5ft long so u could probably fit them ;] and i think my friend is going with the redtail. were both going to the austin expo on the 28th and are most likely getting em there. (unless i can find a good store in san antonio first hehe)

My Hypo Columbian Red Tail Boa baby, Niterii. :D

2 to 3 months. She has already gotten more girth and length to her and those pics were taken a couple of weeks ago. They grow super fast for the first few years. :)

Don't tease me!!! LOL I'm trying to restrain myself here :) maybe someday when I make some major $$$ lol

Red tails are lovely too :) I just love the patterns and iridescent colors of rainbows

Make sure you get Brazilian rainbow Boa though... the others are a deal less attractive. Also, note the relatively strict humidity conditions needed.

haha static i think most everyone in this forum realizes just how difficult restraint is when it comes to more snakes, and eventually im looking at getting a redtail when i have enough room.
and kokopelli, i did notice how much more vibrant the brazilians are!! but what humidity level is needed? i read somewhere that it should b around 50% is tht right?

o and grankin, i just got to hold one probably just a bit bigger than niterii and it was amazin, they are definitely a docile snake, but u can tell they have some serious power!

Yeah, before I got Niterii I held a female that was about 5 to 6 feet long and about 2 1/2 to 3 inches round and you could tell she could make me very uncomfortable if she threw a temper tantrum. :D

When the shop went to put her back in her tank she hooked around my neck so they couldn't get her. She didn't like being couped up in that tank. I wish I could have gotten her but they wanted 150 for her and I didn't have that kind of cash. :( Plus, I know the guy that runs the shop and they aren't mistreated. :)

thats good! the one i held had just been bought from a lady who didnt even have the money to feed her snakes and sold that one cuz he was too "mean". not only was that snake docile as could be but thankfully in good health, and that store definetly takes care of their reptiles. hopefully ill be pickin up my new boa next weekend though!

higher than that, I am quite sure. Read up on them. I haven't kept them yet so I held off on really looking into it- but I am quite positive it's higher.

I'm pretty sure 60% is the minimum... they need to have their tanks misted at least twice a day, and have a humid hide provided at all times. It's also a good idea to get a lid that isn't 100% mesh or cover it with some plexi-glass to keep the humidity in. Also, I don't think its uncommon to keep them on a substrate of slightly moist sphagnum moss and to have 1/4 - 1/3 of their viv as a water bath that they ca soak in.

If they get too dry they can stop eating and eventually get dehydrated enough that they will die ):

I know the more I see the BRBs the more I am thinking about getting one haha. They are just a really cool looking snake.
