Black/dark cornsnakes?

I'm curious, if there are any morphs that get very dark/black?

I've seen every colour of the rainbow, including silver/grey, but never any REALLY dark corns.

Not corns, but if you are really into the look: I believe mexican black king snakes and black rat snakes have similar needs to corns. I want a black rat snake but it is illegal here to buy native species...I'll have to wait until I can catch a little one!

I love the mexican black kings! That's kinda why I was asking, wondered if anyone had come up with black corns :p I've never seen a black king up here in Canada, actually not alot of kings in general now that I think about it, except the basic black and white banded ones (which I have a big one lol)

What genes are you using Betsy? and hows it coming? :p

I am just at the beginning & I am working with anery & others. My hope is to produce a very dark corn snake with reduced patterning. My first step in breeding happened about 2-3 weeks ago so now I am waiting for my girl to lay a clutch of double het normals. 3 Years from now I will see the F2s, but I expect I will be waiting for F3s or F4s to get the look I want. :(

Oh great! LOL more money to throw at Rebecca :p hahaha

I'm getting my corns (and hopefully a ball python) from her next month lol didn't notice she had black kings too... oh boy!

Do you have a corn with a really dark ground coloration?

I'm working on creating a dark line of anery Honduran Milksnakes:

I think it's a little bit trickier with corns. Some do get darker as they age, but not to the same degree as some milk snakes. There also doesn't appear to be a melanistic gene discovered yet - like there is with Eastern Garter Snakes and Eastern Hognose Snakes.

In 2006 I produced this "high black" anery corn that I considered holding back for a selective breeding program, but I ended up selling it.

Megan, I am so glad you are getting her. I thought about it myself but I am running out of space!
