well my female (age 6) started doing the dirty with the male (age 3) for the first time one jan 11 2011 and did it about 5 more times within 2 weeks and here i is almost a month after the first time and she isnt showing any signs yet no rounding of the belly no girth or anything other than she stoped eating last week and is about to shed if any one has any advice or help please shoot me a message thanks

She probably has or will, but not enough to really be noticed.

Has she put on measurable weight? And have you felt for egg bumps?

Hm. I would continue to offer food and place a lay box with her just in case. Maybe someone else could chime in; I mostly know everything from the hours of research.

Have you tried reintroducing the male?

It's doubtful she will lay before she sheds. I would remove the male. After she sheds, try to breed them one more time. If she isn't willing, remove him again. Put in a lay box and change her to a small water bowl she can't get into to lay eggs in. Then just wait. She should lay within about 7 days. Maybe less, maybe more.

Ok well I came home to a nice sheded snake and I her and the male have just been sitting in the hide for the past 2 hours but y can't I feel anything in her and y isn't she showing anything

Maybe she just hasn't ovulated yet. Even with a successful mating, you'll only get eggs if the female has produced egg follicles. She should store the sperm internally and "deploy" it when that happens. You won't automatically get eggs forming just because they've mated.

As far as I know there's nothing you can do to trigger ovulation. Bringing them out of brumation can give a measure of predictability over when this happens, but even then it's not guaranteed.

You can't tell when they're about to ovulate. A lot of them, you can't tell when they are actually ovulating. Basically, feel for lumps as you would do when checking for a clutch of eggs. You might feel egg follicles through her belly or sides. Or you might not be able to feel them at all. Some of them can look a little more bulky around the end third of their body.

ok im playing with her now and the last probally 8 inches of her is rounder than the rest and more dense seeing she just shed a couple hrs ago is the the poo or something else

I would go ahead and put a nesting box in there with her. I did have a female last year that I could not tell for sure that she was pregnant. She looked like she had gained a little and was more round but I couldn't really feel much. She is a snow so I even tried candling her and I could maybe see some eggs but I could only count 4 or 5 but imagine my amazement when she layed 13 huge eggs. I am really interested to see if she is a little more obvious this year. I know I was with my second pregnancy.

advice on behaviour after mating !!

hi i have recently inherited 2 lovely corn snakes, they are about 2 yrs old and im still trying to figure out what kind they are as there is so many types :). i have one male and one female both housed in the same tank i was given with them. i have tried to read as much info as i can on them but there are still a few questions i need answers for so any advice would be much appreciated thanks
1. one of them strikes and constricts around the mouse when fed but the other shows no interest when fed so i have taken to leaving the mouse in the tank and leaving it to it is that ok ???

2. last saturday i found them mating and again last night, from what i have read they are not the right age for breeding just yet and wondered will this cause a problem ?

3. since mating neither are interested in feeding how long should i wait to try again and how long can they go without a feed ?
