Bringing the corn home

Yes, just switch cold turkey. Heat the pink up to HOT though- it only takes a minute or so. This 100F.

I'd still give him five days to settle in, and I would make sure they feed him no less than three-four days before you move him. I mean, no food within three to four days or moving him home.

I would definitely apply the same rules about feeding and handling after shopping. Also, when you get him home watch those temps like a hawk. I've had the weirdest crap happen from moving (we've moved house several times since getting Ark). Anything from the outlet kicking off totally and letting him get pretty cold to the temps going up 10 degrees on the hot side even though the dial is set the same. Not noticing that could have been devastating.

I would switch to F/T immediately and stick with it if he will take it. If you have trouble, there are a ton of great threads about how to get them to eat. :)

Just a minor update. Nate gets his snake on Saturday. I visited the herp store today and picked up the entire setup to get it all squared away and temperature regulated before the dropoff. They report that he's (I'm saying "he" for now) an excellent eater and remains calm when handling. He looks to have grown a couple of inches, too (maybe three). They also said that they were hoping that we would change our minds about getting a snake because they all want him. Well, that's not going to happen! Looks like we made a good choice. They also already transitioned him to frozen, so that's out of the equation. I'll introduce him in a progression thread over the weekend.

I think if I was doing it I would surprise my son with the setup (without hides) and a gift certificate to go pick out a snake together. That way you can go pick out the snake and the hides together and he can be aware of the whole process, and it's still a big awesome surprise. :)

Do this. The snake must be left alone for a few days (it doesn't really hurt to watch him, as long as you're not too close) so unless you have a week-long excuse, it's not really ideal. Plus, this way he gets to pick out the exact snake he'd like :)

Your picture thread is the BEST!
And, I know I'm late chiming in, but I think that getting a calm hatchling is probably the best way, if you have an interest in seeing a snake grow up and change.
Good pick.
