I agree, seems odd for a breeder not to have photo's of their breeding stock. :shrugs:

On the two occassions I've been seriously tempted, both breeders told me they didn't have pictures of the parent(s). The last one was because he had sold the parents last year.

I find it extremely odd that he says he can't show you pictures of the parents because they are in brumation. To me, that's a red flag. It seems that he just doesn't want you to see what they look like. I mean, most people have tons of pictures of their snakes.

:shrugs: I've got nine corns and pictures of only half of them. Hopefully we will get a camera some day, but first come the student loan payments, the car payments, the house payments, the groceries, 700 frozen mice order..... It seems like every time I get enough saved up it gets blown on some more corns.

If the breeder was working with corns on the side or as a hobby, then no it's not terribly surprising they don't have pictures. Who knows, maybe they had pics at one point but their computer crashed. Not everybody who breeds corns is in love with them like the people on this site.

There are a lot of corn breeders out there who just keep them as incidental stock, and their real projects are things like chondros and hogg island boas etc. In my experience these herpers rotate their corn breeders periodically and don't bother to keep a photographic journal of each animal's life, because that animal's stay in their collection is probably limited anyway.

It's still a red flag to me. I've got 7 snakes and have at least 100 pictures of each of them. I think if someone is a reptuable breeder, he will know that buyers will want to see the parents, and will have pictures on hand. If someone breeds corns and can't take 10 seconds to take a picture of one of his breeders, I wouldn't want to buy from him anyway. If he can't take the time to take a picture, how do I know he takes adequate care of his snakes? The "I can't afford a camera" excuse doesn't wash with me either. You can buy a fairly decent camera for around $20 these days. I paid that much for my son's digital camera, and it takes decent pictures. And I for sure wouldn't want to buy from someone who kept corns as "incidental stock". So I'll say it again--red flag. Buy from someone who can supply you with pictures of the parents.

One more thing, I don't see why he can't snap a quick photo even though the parents are in brumation. He's got to change the water anyway, do it then. Unless, of course, his corns are "incidental stock" and he doesn't care enough to make sure they have fresh water.

i agree w/ becky, when he said that he couldnt give me pictures of the rents then i was like immediately put off. Im not going to purchase the snakes, all together w/ shipping it would be 60 and i just found out there is a reptile expo coming up that i dont wanna miss! he he
