Hey Jen it is found mostly in western part of Kentucky. Here is a link that shows all/ or at least most snakes that are native to the state. (Im not sure if you have it)

I think I will go with the consenus on this one. So, does anyone want this little guy? I am planning on releasing him otherwise. I have another corn coming soon, so I will need the space :shrugs: . Otherwise I would love to keep this one and see what he is like as an adult. Has anyone ever tried to breed a prairie to a corn? Though I like to experiment, I am too new to snake breeding to try this one.. :grin01: Thanks for all the replies!! Jennifer

Amels of this species are pretty nice, but rarely does anyone keep them.
My vote is release immediately.

I forgot to say - As they grow, most prairie kings get brownish gray. Not attractive to many people. Look up some pics of adults and see what I mean. They are nowhere close to corns in beauty.
Their closely related cousins, the mmole kings are slightly more attractive, but again, while pretty in their own way, not eye-catching when compared to other captive snakes.
Also, calligasters are fairly flighty, musky and poopy and don't tend to calm down for a long while (At least all the ones I've dealt with were).
