Can Corns Breed Anytime?

Okay Chigy, first thing to understand is, the snakes have no problem being apart. None. It may seem so, you might be able to convince yourself of that. But there is none, zero, social behavoir in any animals of their order let alone family, or class. Mass breedings in garters, rattlers and others hibernating in the same den, or your corns coiling up together under the same hide are nothing more than finding the same area most suitable.[\QUOTE]

Last I understood, there were still questions about this. It may be possible that they find comfort in numbers, but since there is no evidence one way or the other, then we can't really guess. I will agree that they will not feel complex emotions like happiness or joy, but comfort is basic and it is a much bigger possibility than "happy". I would like to think that you were trying to be helpful and not trying to yell and rant about this.

A little different

I have a snow corn that I decided to go ahead and breed this season even though her size may be in question.
She is fairly small, just pushing 34 or 35 inches but she is a little over three years old and, I am sure, sexually mature. I think she just happens to be a small snake. She was an early hatch in '02 (Feb, 6, 2002)
She has a good girth for her length and eats every week, she has just always prefered a smaller meal then my other snakes the same size. She could eat adult mice but prefers medium hoppers, so that is what I feed her. One medium hopper a week. She has been on one hopper a week for about a year and a half now.
I will keep you updated but I think you have to take each individual snake into consideration with age and size.
I would never think about breeding a 34 inch yearling, 18 month old or even two year old but after three years I think it is safe to say she is just going to be a small snake and with her being healthy and well conditioned I think she should be able to carry a clutch of eggs witout problem.
anyone have experience with smaller snakes like this?

I think you're right Jimmy Johnson, every snake is different, and as you said, some snakes stay smaller than others do...I have an adult elaphe taeniura friesei(4 years old) which is about 5 feet....a normal length would be 8 feet or so at that age...

this guy could eat full grown rats easily but he won't take anything bigger than a subadult rat...I guess some snakes just are strange :p

I think that when a cornsnake has grown to a good size without powerfeeding, I guess she will be ready to breed at the length of 35 inch or so, this could be in 18 months maybe, but my corns will take longer :p
