Would like to see some of the members Snake Racks, I am getting a few snakes in the next couple of weeks and don't want to be speeding alot of money on tanks. Plus don't have the room for tanks all over the place.

Would like some ideas on how they are made and how they look. Things like Heating, Setups, Venting,Bin sizes.

Thanks in advance.:spinner:

This is my rack. It is an Animal Plastics Economy Plastic 66 qt rack. It is heated by heat cable. The bins are roughly 24x18x12. It isn't pictured on the Animal Plastics site, but it's a stock size, not a special order.

This one is gorgeous...could have that one in the livingroom due to it nice finish. Now you say HEAT CABLE. can you buy those anywhere? And where does it go on the rack? With this heat cable, does that mean no need for heat lamps?

I like the $100 step by step one. would be great for maximus on bottom and myan on top. I downloaded your step by step.

Thanks...Keep them coming

The heat cable comes with the rack. There is a groove cut into the back edge of each shelf that it runs through. It has to be on a thermostat- it gets very hot.

What if I were to used heat pads under each one in the warm area, you think that would work too?

Something like this

Don't see why that wouldn't work, except each thermostat generally only lets you plug two or three things into it, so you'd have to use some sort of multiple outlet thing.

Here is a couple shots of mine. The yearling racks (Black racks) are from AP Cages, but the rest I built myself.

Walter,

Walter, you've probably posted these pics before of your racks, anyway, I've just never seen 'em... those look super. Great job, man!

Nice set-ups, everyone!

I build my own cages out of acrylic, which has become wildly expensive. I'm going to have to consider some sort of rack system, and soon. The ones by Animal Plastics look like they would work well. Walter, I hope to have something like you have in the distant future -- great job!

You could sell those, Kathy. What is "wildly expensive?" Those are just gorgeous.

I am with Kathy on that, a group of guys used to build their own reef tanks and now started sell them as well. Those are very nice. Heck, I bet they are stackable as well with out using a shelfing unit.

Thanks, Nanci and Tricksterpup!

The cost varies depending on the enclosure size, and thickness of material. On my bigger python enclosures, I use 3/8" acrylic, and on the smaller ones, 1/4" material. They cost between $60 - $200 per cage, including heat. It wasn't bad when I only had a few snakes, but I have over 30 now, and it's really starting to add up! Also, acrylic is a petroleum product, and prices are tied to the crude-oil market. We all know what's going on with that racket! :angry01:

I thought about trying to sell them -- I took some snakes to a local show, and I set up my display table with these cages. I managed to sell the snakes, but actually got more interest in the cages! The problem is making any kind of profit, since I have to buy the material at retail cost. I would have to spend about $5k to get wholesale pricing, and unfortunately, that's just not in the budget right now.

Thanks again, guys! Sorry PAIN, I didn't mean to hijack your thread.
