So I have sen some setups and they are ALL GREAT looking ones. Here is my question.. some of the racks with the Rubbermaid bins do they have lids on them? Or are the racks measured close enough for the tank to slide in tight to the bottom of the upper self?

If both, what is the best way, Lids or openness and snug?

ALL you that have posted have great ideas and comments. Thanks SOOOOOOOOO much.

I'll play too.

Vision 10 high rack for 32qt tubs and 15qt tubs. I really like this one because it's tall, has coasters, and is pretty sturdy.

AP 6 high rack for 32qt tubs. Currently, I'm not even using this one. Most of my collection is still fairly small, so I've condensed everyone into the vision rack to save the electricity bill.

This is my homemade hatchling rack. It's made out of the crates you get for dorm rooms and such, with an 11 inch piece of flexwatt taped in the middle. The glad sandwich tupperwares fit 2 deep and 5 or 6 high on each side of the flexwatt. It also fits the long rectangular tupperware containers. This is more of a temporary setup for raising my guys and keeping 'for sale' hatchlings.

Most are measured close enough to work without the lids, at least for all but hatchlings. They really shouldn't be kept in a standard rack, IMO. Personally, I wouldn't even trust some of my hatchlings with the AIRHOLES that I use in my adult tubs.

Mine aren't for hatchlings. Mine are for young ones and adult snakes.

What if I were to used heat pads under each one in the warm area, you think that would work too?

Something like this

You would also need a rheoatat/thermostat with the heat pads...esp the one you show get about 105*F. No matter what the box syas they all have hot spots and heat unevenly...we have several.
The ExoTerra Rainforest heat pad is the "coolest" we've found.
It can run open with jsut 2" of substrate as a buffer.

How close to the border are you (Windsor). If your not too far. I think me and you need to have a chat. ;)

Thanks! I don't know if you've ever ventured over here for a basketball game or concert, but we're in Oakland County, about 4 miles from the Palace of Auburn Hills. (About a 45-minute drive to the Ambassador bridge). If you want to talk cages, send me a PM and I'll give you our phone number.

Aren't they just the most useful things! I used to keep my hedgehogs in cages made out of those things ...

Toyah, those front-opening boxes are very cool! Were they purchased that way, or did you have to modify them? I haven't seen anything like that on this side of the pond.

Kathy

The boxes were bought that way, I just added a piece of dowel on either side to keep them properly closed - works well, and it's SO much easier than having to pull boxes out of a rack (as you would have to do with a lidded rack), or even having to slide them forward like you do with a lidless rack.

The company that makes the boxes is http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/ - it looks like they're planning to supply to the US soon!

I'll Show Mine Again

The second one was made to look like a piece of furniture, the others are plain.

Nice set-ups, everyone!

I build my own cages out of acrylic, which has become wildly expensive. I'm going to have to consider some sort of rack system, and soon. The ones by Animal Plastics look like they would work well. Walter, I hope to have something like you have in the distant future -- great job!
