Care fresh?

SnakeAround

Formerly Blutengel
I am looking for colored substrate to use in display vivs on fairs. I found the pink, blue and white care fresh bedding on the internet, but of course only pictures of the pack, no close up of the bedding. I hope someone has photo's of the stuff for me to see what it looks like and if it is the stuff I hope it is. Further I hope to see the colors in real life. I have to assume the colors available over here are the same as their US counterpart.

Of course I can go to a pet shop or such to see what it looks like, but it seems like no pet shop carries all the types and brands I'd like to see. I'm curious about hamster 'color bed' too for example, usually not carried by reptile shops.

And please tell me why you guys can get purple and green but over the pond we cannot :headbang:

I found these images of the actual bedding. As for the availability of the different colors, it might just be related to what each distributor wants to carry as some colors may not sell as well as others, so why bother to stock them. Look around at other stores and from on-line sources and maybe you can find the colors you want. Direct from the manufacturer is always a good option to try.

I didn't know they had all these colors!

I've seen snakes on this bedding at the Daytona show and it looks attractive enough. The snakes definitely like it as they can bury themselves in it and it does absorb any poop or water spillage nicely. The large size of some of the pieces was the only unattractive thing, especially with a small hatchling, so maybe if you had the spare time and were just using it for shows and things, try breaking the really large pieces into small ones. I'm not sure if running it through a shredder would work for that or not, but it's a thought.

I use it for hatchlings for their first two or three sheds, but it has a couple things that bother me. First, if it gets into a hatchling water bowl, it absorbs all the water. (Aspen just sinks). Second, it has a vaguely odd smell, which sometimes smells like regurge to me. So I end up doing a lot of bin-sniffing to see if it's real or just the CareFresh.

I really like it for shipping, though, and I thought it was pretty in my delis at Daytona.

I like the confetti color- all mixed.

Oh, some of the colors bleed, and some of the darker colors are rough.

At a fair there is usually some time left between visitors at your table so I can os some manual shredding than :)

It looks like in the Netherlands there are only a couple of colors available;

But the actual colors confuse me, because pink looks like this in a Dutch webshop;

Way more intense than on the Carefresh site. That's why I want to see actual photo's, not promotional.

Thanks for the input!

Thanks Nanci! So, it is actually a bit to the pastelside of the range, like typical baby colors.... Maybe I should female baby's on pink bedding and boys on blue :p Though an amel on pink bedding might not look that attractive.... but I like the idea!

CS.com is so inspirational :)

Carefresh fades like crazy! We carried it at work...I could tell when somebody didn't rotate stock because the brighter bags would be on the top. It starts off pretty bright, but fades to the light pastel color within about a month. Pink fades the most/quickest...

The absorption is why we ended up stopping using it for regular bedding...although it looks beautiful. We have a few snakes that enjoy a good soak/swim, and soggy Carefresh is unpleasant when they get out.

And I thought the smell was just me smelling things...
