check out this spider

Wow, some beautiful spider pics even though I hate them, they can be quite beautiful...in a weird kind of way.
I don't think it is a wolf spider. I have seen those and they are furry right? This one isn't. I felt it and it is actually quite soft, like satin..yea, I felt it...weird huh? " This one is about 2" long and 1" wide. And that is without the legs fully extended. From what I found on the net it is a Giant House Spider...
We have all kinds of spiders in our new house. We have all hardwood (except for the family room) downstairs and our bedroom is hardwood and every time I turn around, there is another one in the corner! And we have huge centipedes too!!

???? LOL. IDK... Never heard of that before. All I know is that while I "love" spiders, if one is running AT me, I'm not sticking around to see if it just wants to rest in my shadow. :)

I've met people who have been bitten by them. No "lasting" effects except for the extreme HATE for them afterwards. LOL.

My step-daughter got bit by a spider in ocean city years ago and her leg swelled up like a football..she had to go have it lanced and it was nasty!

I'd STOMP on that without blinking...

Ewe...I can't stand stepping on any kind of bug, spider, whatever. I stepped on a spider one time and it had a bunch of baby eggs on it's back and they went scurrying all over so I don't step on them anymore...gives me the ebegebeze

Ugg, thanks for that image.

At Putty: That look almost like my baby versicolor! I'd call it a Pink-toed Versicolor baby! Do you know what kind of spider it is?

That's my own pinktoe :p. I was just kidding about finding them in my house, way too cold here.

I find these in the basement all the time. Mostly in the evenings.

What kind of T is that it is cute?

@Dave, your spider is either a Basilica Orb Weaver (Mecynogea lemniscata ) or a Venusta Orchard Spider (Leucauge venusta ) I think.

Double check at: http://www.pbase.com/lejun/spiders

sinisterserpents1, yours is a black and yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia ).

I'll have to find a website for id-ing Putty's but for most American bug finders, try: http://www.insectidentification.org/. I'll double check to see if I can't get Canadian spiders from this site as well.

Edit to say: Putty posted while I was researching. I thought that was a regular ol' T, but thought "hey, maybe the wolf spiders in Canada are prettier!"

Does anyone else fear spiders in their homes, but feel absolutely no fear when they are found outside the home? If I see a spider outside or at work I get excited and try to catch it, but if I find one in my house it freaks me right out.

I seem to be having a spider theme in my life right now. A huge house spider hung out in my bathroom the other day, and never having seen one before, I was wigged out. The little warrior was missing two legs, which somehow made it even creepier. I left it alone, thinking it was close to death. The next day, my boyfriend was doing dishes and the thing jumped off the ceiling and landed right on his neck. He didn't know what it was until he went to look in the bathroom mirror and subsequently swatted it onto the floor. I will give the spider credit for not trying to bite him. We caught and released it outside.

We have tons of yellow sac spiders reproducing in this apartment, and last night I dreamt that our backyard had turned into this huge, misshapen structure mostly consisting of sheets of the sacs these spiders weave to hang out in. They were hatching everywhere around me and in the middle of the structure was a three-foot spider made of rope. I woke up and went to make a coffee. What do I see but a yellow sac spider making her way INSIDE of the espresso machine.

Of course, I have to come online to check CS.com after work, and here is this thread!

I certainly do not try to catch any spiders, eeeek! But if a spider is outside I leave it be, sometimes admire it, sometimes stay far away from it. Once a spider/bug/what-have-you enters my house it is not staying! I look at my ceiling every night before I go to bed in summer (bugs get in through the window with the AC in it)...I hate the thought of bugs crawling on me while I sleep. However, they are free to go live in the basement if they'd like.

I have this weird thing where small (under 1cm) spiders freak me out, but anything larger is a-ok.
