Comments on my snake please?

He is now a lot happier on his aspen:

Does anyone know what he is? I thought the only one that looked like him was a miami, what does a crimson look like, i have never seen one.

For reference, here are two of my normals with a similar look:

I would personally say he looks a tad darker than a normal, but you can get colour variations on them.

This is a pic of a crimson i found (apparently) and he does look like it...

Would anything on the belly tell anything? because he looks like that norm aswell.

What does that mean? You think it's hypermelanistic? I have a normal that's 10x that dark.

Crimson involves two elements, both of which must be present:

1- Hypomelanism.

2- Selected appearance.

The selected appearance part is shown in the crimson pictures that have been posted. It is a "distinctive look" that is a matter of opinion, just like the okeetee and miami looks. That is, you could post pics of a particular hypo cornsnake and some people would call it a crimson and others would not.

Hypomelanism is an on/off thing, though. Either the snake is homozygous for hypo or it isn't, and this is objective rather than a matter of opinion. If it isn't homozygous hypo, then the snake is not a crimson... any more than it could be a candycane without being amelanistic. :santa:

I hope that clears things up. :)

It also looks like it could be a Root Beer, aka emoryi corn. Or it could be het Caramel, or it could be just a normal. It's really hard to know without background information.
I'd just call him a purdy snake that likes the aspen. :)

One more thing, Can anyone think of any decent names? i'm terrible at thinking them up. he has not really got a name at the moment apart from 'Sam' which is a temporary name, any ideas?
