Convincing my Mom

I really want to get a corn snake. They are really pretty and they seem to be the most popular and easiest snake to maintane. My mom doesnt have a problem with me getting a snake, she just doesnt like that it eats mice. I told her taht i could feed it frozen mice but that made her more digusted that we would have to keep frozen mice in our freezer. Any suggestions?

I feed my corn on day old chicks, maybe she would let you keep baby chicken in the freezer?

Maybe but will a hatchling be able to eat chicks? And were would you have to go to get baby chicks?

hey m8, heres an idea, instead of storing mice in the freezer, simply buy them on the day your feeding your corn, that way its straight from the shop to the hungry snake (of course with thawing involed  )

That is a good idea Stuart, My snake was fully grown when I adopted her and has eaten chicks all her life..... I have no idea what she ate as a hatchling.

16p per chick 80p per mouse, But I don't do it to save money though, just got a sack of 24 chicks when I adopted her and see know reason to change at least till these chicks are finished. I may try her on rat pups as she is a big girl.

be very careful with the rats lol. if urs is anything like mine.
they go CRAZY for them. at one point i was actually scared of my corn, but he looked like he really enjoyed it, so im glad to feed him more. feed yours one, see if he acts any different
im not trying to put u off them btw lol, just warning ya no to have any hands present

My local pet shops sells the chicks frozen, same with the rat pups. I think rat pups cost about £1.50 each ($1.00 USD)

i wouldnt feed rats or chicks to hatchlings, in fact, not i wouldnt, dont. feed the snake mice until its fairly big. then try rats, chicks aint small, i shud think only adults could eat them. but thats me. feed mice till about 1 year old +, then rat pups + small mice then upgrade along with your snakes growth. but id feed chicks wen the snakes very large.

anyways in answer to your question, rat pups are around 40p around here, pinkie mice are around 30p chickes r 15p, small mice are 55p

but dont forget, mice are VERY good for the snake and are full of calcium
rats are very fatty for the snake and dont have as much goodness as mice
i dont know wot chicks have apart from shapr claws which i wouldnt give to my snake. if he eats it backwards hes pretty much doomed

I agree Stuart, I will be moving eventually. Sorry I think we have gone way :-offtopic here. ooops :eek1:

cindy: if he eats chicks its ok lol :p i was just saying what i would do if in that position, who knows, i may try the odd chick wen money is sparse

Ive not heard of feeding corns with chicks. Is the nutritional value as good as mice?

I would ask youre mum how she feels about keeping dead chicken and cows etc in the fridge. Ask if you could keep them double wrapped in bags within the freezer so that she wouldnt see them, she need never see them. Also ask her what it is that bothers her about the mice and se if there is anything you could do about that.
Could you keep a seperate tiny freezer in youre room for them? or could you keep them at a friends or relatives house, just in case you couldnt get to a pet shop every few days?
I wouldnt push the issue, dont grind youre mum down. Just accept what she says but work on thinking of answers that will work for both of you if you can. Best of luck. I know my mum has the same issues with my sister having snakes, we are working on it slowly.

you make a good point about the the other meat she keeps in the fridge... my mom is very squimish. I asked her if i could keep them in a paper bag so she couldnt see them but then she said the cats would try to get them when you get the mice out.. I know they wouldnt becuse our cats dont go for frozen meant and i wouldnt put them in our reach. Im not going to bother her to much about it but ill bring it up. Eventually shell give in and let me get one.
